This is part of the general picture, of a vicious attack on democracy where one can also see the independent and critical press receiving its worst battering in recent years as the last ten years indicate.
THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded immediate disclosure of information regarding electoral bonds, as ordered by the Supreme Court. Protests were organised at SBI branches throughout Andhra Pradesh on March 11, in response to the Party's call. During the protest at the SBI main branch in Vijayawada, Party state secretary, V Srinivasa Rao, accused the ruling BJP of conducting politics with black money obtained from major corporations. He ridiculed the saffron party that talks about honesty while receiving kickbacks from corporate entities in the form of electoral bonds.

It has also seen an equally strong resurgence of the BJP-RSS government’s brutal repression against farmers, which has led to two farmer martyrs so far, and many more seriously injured.One of the martyrs is 79-year old Gian Singh, who died of a heart attack on February 16, 2024 while protesting at the Shambhu border; the other is 21-year old Shubhkaran Singh, who was shot dead by the trigger-happy police of the BJP Haryana government on February 21 at the Khanauri border.
