THE farmers’ struggle in Noida and Greater Noida is marked by the concrete demands raised on land rights, the consistency of the struggles, massive participation, and, overall, the issue-based unity of the project-affected families. The context of the struggle relates to various projects, including Greater Noida, Noida, Yamuna Expressway, Jewar International Airport, and UPSIDC, among others, that acquired the precious land assets of these farmers without providing rightful compensation or alternative livelihood support.

THE 18th State Conference of the Himachal state committee of the CPI(M) was held in Shimla from November 28-30, 2024. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has staged a major protest on December 5, against the union government’s neglect of Kerala in the wake of the Wayanad tragedy. The protest included a march to Raj Bhavan and demonstrations at union government offices across district centres. The state government has proposed a rehabilitation scheme for Wayanad, designed as a township, and sought central assistance for its implementation. However, the union government has refused to declare it a national disaster, undermining the need for immediate support.

A NATIONAL convention was organised by the Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM) and the Centre for Adivasi Research and Development (CARD) on December 1 in New Delhi on the important though less discussed issue of exclusion of adivasis from jobs. The convention was attended by 300 delegates from 15 states. The convention was attended by representatives of other Adivasi organisations such as the Campaign for Survival and Dignity, SRUTI and the Adivasis Ekta Mahasabha.
