The Chinese Embassy in New Delhi hosted a seminar to mark the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The seminar was attended by leaders of Left parties, diplomats, academics and other distinguished guests. CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, Polit Bureau member and Head of the International Department R Arun Kumar and Central Secretariat member V Muralidharan represented the Party at the event.

Delivering the keynote address, Xu Feihong, Chinese Ambassador to India, traced the historic journey of the Communist Party of China from leading the Chinese revolution to building the People's Republic of China and transforming the country into the world's second-largest economy. He said the CPC's steadfast commitment to serving the people, upholding the fundamental principles of Marxism while adapting them to China's concrete conditions, and continuously innovating in governance, had enabled China to eradicate absolute poverty, achieve rapid economic growth and maintain long-term social stability. He also highlighted the Party's vision of building a "community with a shared future for humanity" and reaffirmed China's commitment to peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit.

Speaking on India-China relations, Ambassador Xu described the two countries as leading members of the Global South and major emerging economies whose development offered immense opportunities for both their peoples and the wider world. Stressing that India and China should be partners rather than rivals, he called for better alignment of development strategies, expanded mutually beneficial cooperation and the proper management of differences through dialogue and negotiation. He also emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination under multilateral frameworks such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and expressed China's support for India fulfilling its role as the Chair of BRICS this year.

Speaking at the seminar, CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby conveyed his warm greetings to the CPC, its leadership and the people of China, expressing the hope that the Party would continue to guide the country from strength to strength and that the Chinese people would enjoy ever greater prosperity, peace and happiness. Congratulating the CPC on its historic achievements, he praised its success in lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty, eliminating absolute poverty, advancing science and technology, and leading China's remarkable economic and social transformation.

Reflecting on the centuries-old civilisational ties between India and China, M A Baby recalled the journeys of the Chinese monks Fa Hien and Hieun Tsang, as well as the contributions of Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan in strengthening intellectual and cultural exchanges between the two countries. He also highlighted the shared legacy of anti-imperialist solidarity, paying tribute to Dr Dwarkanath Kotnis, whose selfless service to the Chinese people during the war against Japanese imperialism remains a lasting symbol of friendship between the peoples of India and China.

Describing the victory of the Chinese Revolution in 1949 as a watershed in the history of the post-colonial world, M A Baby said the CPC had creatively applied Marxism-Leninism to China's concrete conditions and successfully led the country on the path of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics. He noted that the Party's achievements in poverty eradication, economic development and technological advancement demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of the Chinese people and the rejuvenation of the nation.

Stressing that the development of India and China is not a zero-sum game, M A Baby observed that together the two countries account for more than one-third of humanity, making their cooperation crucial not only for their own peoples but also for global progress. He called for bilateral differences, including the boundary question, to be resolved through patient dialogue, mutual respect and understanding, guided by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence (Panchsheel). He further underlined the growing importance of BRICS and the SCO as platforms for expanding cooperation between the two countries and strengthening the voice of the Global South in an increasingly turbulent world.

The seminar also featured addresses by CPI General Secretary D Raja, All India Forward Bloc General Secretary G Devarajan, and CPI(ML) Liberation Central Committee member Rajiv Dimri, who joined in extending greetings to the CPC on its 105th anniversary and emphasised the importance of strengthening India-China friendship and cooperation.
