Q. Why is the sedition law objectionable and why is the Party opposed to it when there are secessionist forces active in the country? Rajkumar, ChandigarhTHE sedition clause in the Indian Penal Code is contained in Section 124A. This clause was introduced by the British colonial government in the IPC to suppress people who were opposed to British rule. Sedition means inciting people against the authority of the State or the monarch. This notorious clause was used rampantly by the British against freedom fighters.

Tripura: Left Front Sweeps TTAADC Village Committee Poll

DEFEATING the opportunistic and unholy alliance of all anti-Left political parties, the Left Front in Tripura maintained its dominance winning 520 of the 587 village committees of TTAADC. In terms of seats, Left Front won in 3,838 out of 4,597. Of these, CPI(M) won in 3,806 seats,  while CPI,  RSP and FB won in 12, 12 and 8 seats, respectively. The Left Front won in 88.59 per cent of village committees and in 83.5 per cent of seats. The polling was held on February 24.

Reconsider Decision on Life Saving Drugs

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on March 3, 2016.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep concern that 76 life saving drugs have been taken off the customs duties exemption list. This gazette notification by the government has made these drugs more expensive. These drugs include anti-cancer, anti-AIDS and drugs for haemophilia patients.The government’s reasoning is that this would protect the domestic drug companies.

Union Budget 2016-17

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on February 29, 2016.

IN the backdrop of global economic slowdown, the budget should have increased measures that enhance domestic demand. Instead it chose to continue with the same regressive policies that are contractionary. This would aggravate inequality, unemployment and further contract exports. It would lead to increasing distress in agriculture and the countryside, the collapse of industrial production, the slowdown in construction activities and many services.
