MAHARASHTRA: AIDWA’S Workshop on ‘Women and Health’

LAST month, the Maharashtra AIDWA organised a three-day statewide workshop on ‘Women and Health’ for its main activists. Held in Thane city, it was well attended by 75 leading activists from all over the state. The organisation has been consistently fighting on various issues faced by women like ration, price rise, employment, domestic violence and atrocities. But the health issue which is close to every woman’s heart is rarely addressed by women’s organisations.

WEST BENGAL: Centenary of the October Revolution Observed in Kolkata

CPI(M) West Bengal state committee has organised a year long programme to celebrate the centenary of the October Revolution. It concluded with a massive public meeting in Kolkata. The meeting was attended by two thousand people despite inclement weather.Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury explained the significance of the October Revolution even after 100 years. He said that the revolution proved that through it the exploitation of the working people can be brought to an end. It also proved that what Marx had said held true even 50 years later.

MAHARASHTRA: October Revolution Centenary Celebrated

THE last two weeks saw a series of impressive programmes in Thane-Palghar district of Maharashtra. They began with a district Party class at the Comrade Godavari Shamrao Parulekar Bhavan at Talasari on October 30-31, 2017. This was attended by 415 leading comrades from eight tehsils.

KARNATAKA: Protest against Demonetisation

On November 8, the first anniversary of demonetisation, protest demonstrations were held across Karnataka by Left parties – CPI(M), CPI, SUCI(C) – in most district centres. Speakers brought attention to the failure of all objectives (including shifting goalposts) cited by Modi government for demonetisation. Speakers also highlighted the havoc caused in the informal economy by destroying jobs and livelihoods.

India: Health of the Nation’s States

A RECENT report has brought out the diversity within India, as regards challenges to health. The report titled “India: Health of the nation’s states” is based on a study on disease patterns in India and compares the situation in 1990 and 2016. The study was conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The study provides estimates of the impact of 333 disease conditions and injuries and 84 risk factors for every state of India from 1990 to 2016.

One of them Javed Khan is reported missing. All three of them were beaten and also shot at by so-called gau rakshaks.
