Justice Loya was hearing the case regarding the encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005.

MANY questions are swirling around the Rafale fighter aircraft deal especially in these politically charged times with various state elections already held or around the corner. There are even dark hints about skeletons in the cupboards. It is not the purpose of this column, and indeed beyond its capability with the information presently available in the public domain, to comment on possible skullduggery.However, there are undoubtedly many problematic issues raised by the Rafale deal as it now stands, as regards both its contours and the procedure adopted to get there.
THE mandarins of the economic establishment in the capital have gone ballistic. Euphoria is in the air. From the SEBI chairman to the Niti Ayog chief, all were ecstatic. Even Shakti Pada Das, the former ministry of economic affairs secretary who had only last year, vociferously protested against the Moody’s rating methodology, accepted the upgrade by the same agency with a rider; this ought to have been done earlier!

Moody’s have just upgraded India’s credit rating marginally and the BJP is beside itself with joy.

RSS workers attacked the Thiruvananthapuram district committee office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on November 19th night.The incident took place a day after another attack at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation which left the City Mayor V K Prasanth and four councillors injured.
THE All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has demanded the formation of a judicial commission to examine the recent hunger deaths in Jharkhand. On November 10, an AIKS delegation, led by P Krishnaprasad, visited Karimati Village in Simdega where 11-year-old Santoshi Kumari died due to starvation on September 28.So far, five starvation deaths have been reported from Jharkhand. The other deaths were of Baidanath Ravi Das of Dhanbad, Rooplal Murmu of Mohanpur in Deoghar, Suresh Oraon of Garwa, and Vinod Ravi Das of Katras of Dhanbad. Of the five, three are Adivasis.
IN a historic protest action, thousands of farmers representing more than 184 organisations came to Delhi for the Kisan Sansad/Kisan Parliament held on November 20-21, 2017. On November 20 they marched in a colourful procession from the Ramlila Maidan with tens of thousands holding red flags and banners with an accompaniment of green, blue, yellow and pink flags winding their way to the Parliament Street.
AN AIKS delegation led by president Dr Ashok Dhawale visited Ghatmika village in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan ON November 17 to meet the family members of Ummar Mohammed Khan, a poor dairy farmer and daily wage labourer who was murdered by gau rakshaks in Alwar in Rajasthan on November 10. The delegation also met the Alwar SP Rahul Prakash and deputy SP Anil Beniwal and discussed the seriousness of the crime and need for stringent action against the culprits.According to the SP, the postmortem report has confirmed two bullet injuries as cause of death of Ummar Khan and the cow.
