Walmart Take Over: ‘Make in India’ becomes ‘Make for India’

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on May 10THE $ 16 billion acquisition by international e-commerce retail giant Walmart of Indian e-retail Flipkart facilitates the backdoor entry of foreign capital to take over India’s huge multi-crore retail trade sector.The proposal to allow FDI in India’s multi-brand retail sector was stoutly opposed by the Left parties. When in opposition, the BJP also opposed this move. Now in government, the BJP is facilitating the entry of foreign capital through the e-commerce route.

Condemn US Withdrawal from Nuclear Deal

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on May 9PRESIDENT Trump’s announcement of the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran is an unwarranted and irresponsible step that needs to be strongly condemned. The threat of imposing sanctions on Iran is illegal and should be resolutely opposed by the United Nations.The nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Iran and six countries – the United States, Russia, China, France, UK and Germany – had worked well so far.

TMC Sabotages Court Verdict Fight against Terror Continues

IN an unprecedented verdict, the Calcutta High Court directed the State Election Commission to accept the nomination of panchayat candidates sent via email within the extended April 23 deadline. This verdict has come as a response to CPI(M)’s appeal in the court. CPI(M) has been forced to make such an appeal after hundreds of Left candidates were denied access to BDO, SDO office by TMC armed gangs. SEC was earlier asked by the court to extend the time of nomination for one day.

KERALA Protests against Petrol-Diesel Price Hike

THE CPI(M) organised protests all across Kerala against the continuous fuel price hikes in India which have made people's lives miserable.Thousands of people participated in the "Prathishedha Sangamam" (protest confluence) held at Kannur on May 4. A protest march was taken out from the Collectorate to the Stadium corner, where a massive public meeting was held. People participated in the protest by pushing two-wheelers and by carrying gas cylinders.
