J&K: Normalcy without Democracy is No Normalcy At All

NOTWITHSTANDING the tall claims made by the BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir about normalcy and economic development post 2019, the truth remains that there is a depressing scenario prevalent on multiple fronts in the state.First of all, there is a dire political vacuum in the state in the absence of elections and popular government. The statehood has been denied in the most unconstitutional and brazen manner. This is a blatant infringement on the basic constitutional and democratic rights of the people of the state.

A Party Glorifying Godse

THE true meaning of ‘Amrit Kaal’ is unfolding with the relentless attacks on the Muslim minorities accompanied by hate speech and glorification of Gandhiji’s killer, Godse. In Maharashtra, the Shinde-BJP government has gone on a spree of renaming cities which have Muslim names. Aurangabad has become Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Osmanabad is now Dharashiv, Ahmednagar district has been declared to be Ahilyabai Holkar Nagar. These changes were accompanied by majoritarian triumphalism and the demonising of Muslim rulers and historical figures.

WB: Left Candidates File Nominations for Panchayat Polls Repelling TMC Terror

THE previous panchayat polls in Bengal held in May 2018 saw reckless violence as the Trinamool-backed miscreants forcibly prevented opposition candidates from filing nominations. Consequently the TMC had bagged about 34 per cent of the total seats uncontested. The elections turned into a farce. This time also attempts are on to muzzle democratic voices and decimate the opposition. But, in the meantime, the situation has changed. Anti-Trinamool, anti-BJP forces have gained momentum under the leadership of the Left.

SINCE the global financial crisis, investment growth has not recovered to its pre-crisis level worldwide. India despite being a fast growing economy, the growth in gross fixed capital formation shows a declining trend in the past two decades. In the post-crisis period, the governments introduced various institutional reforms in the rubric of ‘ease of doing business’, also corporates could have greater access to finance and external borrowings and public investment was geared to crowd in private corporate investment.

CPI(M) Delegation Visits Bihar Sharif

THE Ram Navmi festival and procession this year was used by the Sangh Parivar in states like Delhi and Madhya Pradesh to instigate violence against the minority community.  Madhya Pradesh is a BJP ruled state and the Delhi police is controlled by the home ministry and therefore the violent communal attacks that were carried out were not surprising.  What was very shocking, however, was the fact that on Ram Navmi this year, violent attacks on religious structures, shops and businesses owned by Muslims were attacked in Bihar Sharif in the state of Bihar which has a Mahagathbandhan government
