Workers Call for a General Strike on January 8, 2020

A NATIONAL Open Mass Convention of Workers gave a call for a general strike in the country on January 8, 2020 against the economic polices pursued by the Modi government at the centre. The convention was attended by leaders of INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC and Independent Federations, Associations and Unions of Workers and Employees on September 30, 2019 at Parliament Street, New Delhi.

Railway Staff Chart Protest Plan to Resist Privatisation

THE All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) held a two-day central working committee meeting at Souharda, Bengaluru, on September 24. The meeting was attended by nearly 120 delegates from all the 17 Railway zones (almost all states) in Indian Railways.

The organisation represents the Assistant Loco Pilot, Shunting Loco Pilot, Loco Pilot Goods, Loco Pilot Passenger, and Loco Pilot Mail of Indian Railways. It discussed the problems faced by Loco Running Staff and the committee had passed resolutions with planned programmes of agitation to settle the issues. 

CITU Extends Support to Bank Strike

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions, in a statement issued on September 23, has extended support to the two days' strike called by four federations of bank officers unions in all the banks of the country on September 26-27, 2019 against the destructive decision of the BJP government on merger of public sector banks and imposition of burden on the people through so-called banking sector reforms.

Anganwadi Workers Protest Action

LAKHS of workers in states of Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Pondicherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal held demonstrations on September 5 at district and block level and gave memorandum to the minister for WCD, government of India. In Haryana and Jharkhand, the anganwadi workers and helpers were on strike against the state governments.
