CTUs Observe Quit India Day

FOLLOWING a call issued by the National Convention of Workers, jointly organised by the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and independent federations/associations on January 30, 2023, the Quit India Day was observed across the country on August 9, 2023 by toiling masses with the rallying cry "Save the Nation, Save the People."August 9 holds a unique historical significance in India's struggle for independence from British Rule. It marks the ‘Quit India’ day when a clear ultimatum was presented to the foreign rulers, demanding their departure from India.

Undermining Workers’ Rights: The Push for 12-Hours Working Day

DURING the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, when people were grappling with the dual concerns of preserving their health and sustaining their livelihoods, the BJP-led Modi government at the centre, along with certain state governments, attempted to extend the working hours of employees from 8 hours to 12 hours per day. This contradicts the principles outlined in the tripartite ILO Convention on Working Hours, to which India is a signatory.

Construction Workers Federation Holds National Conference

THE 10th all India conference of the Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI) that concluded on February 13, 2023 asserted its united resolve to intensify struggles against neoliberal policies aggressively pursued by the Modi led BJP government at the centre.
