Delhi: CPI(M) Protests Against Forced Eviction of People

CPI(M) Delhi state committee condemns the coercive measures used by the DDA, Delhi Police and other paramilitary forces to force residents of Kathputli Colony in central Delhi to move to a transit camp in Anand Parvat. Heavy police presence is there in this colony since the last ten days and people are being forced to sign on the ‘parchis’ stating their agreement to shift to the transit camp.

Mahajana Padayatra: Mobilising Support for Development with Social Justice

THE Telangana state committee of CPI(M) has released a perspective paper on alternative development inviting inputs from public. This is in continuation of the Mahajana Padayatra which is aimed at canvassing and mobilising public support for comprehensive development of the state with social justice. The perspective paper focusses on the developmental alternatives available within the limits of constitutional provisions which failed to draw the required attention from the ruling classes till now thereby ending up evolving an exclusive developmental paradigm.

KERALA: Seminar on Uniform Civil Code held at Kannur

The coordination committee of minority cultural groups organized a seminar on ‘Uniform Civil Code and the Left’ in Kannur on December 20. Addressing the seminar CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat said the BJP is using the issue of Uniform Civil Code as a weapon to obliterate the identity of Muslims in the country and that the fundamentalist position insisting that instant and arbitrary triple ‘talaq’ is ordained by Islam will help communalists create a communal divide in the country.

ANDHRA PRADESH: Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram Inaugurated in Vijayawada

Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram, a centre created to build unity among people and to serve as a venue to promote art and culture, was inaugurated in Vijayawada on December 13. MBVK has facilities to serve as a cultural centre. It has a 650-seat capacity auditorium, which would be in reach of everyone. It will serve as a centre where discussions, seminars, debates on issues concerning public would be held. It also has a huge library.CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury inaugurated the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Vignana Kendram.

Karnataka: Jail-Bharo Agitation Demanding Land-Housing Rights

KARNATAKA witnessed a powerful struggle last week, on November 18 with thousands of landless people courting arrest demanding land and housing rights. Pinarayi Launches Paddy Cultivation on Land Set apart for Aranmula Airport

ASSERTING that the proposed airport in Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district cannot be allowed in view of environmental concerns, the CPI(M)-led LDF government started on October 30 sowing of paddy on about 56 hectares of land acquired for the project, promoted by KGS Group.
