Telangana: US Sanctions on Cuba Must End

THE inhuman and cruel sanctions of the US on Cuba must end, and with the support of the people, Cuba will fight against American imperialism, said revolutionary hero Ernesto Che Guevara’s daughter Aleida Guevara at the Cuba Solidarity meeting held in Hyderabad on January 22.She asserted that to achieve this goal, solidarity from countries all over the globe is vital.The auditorium was jam-packed with supporters and the general public who even sat outside the auditorium to listen to her speech.

TO think of Aleida Guevara as just the ‘heir’ to her father’s legacy, would be to underestimate her. In one of his last letters to his young children, Che Guevara advised them to “always be capable of feeling deeply any injustice committed against anyone, anywhere in the world. This is the best quality in a revolutionary.” His daughter Aleida, a physician, human rights advocate and an important Cuban political figure in her own right has throughout her life showed a remarkable eagerness to fulfill her father's wishes in every respect.

Karnataka: Anganwadi Workers Demand to be Classified as Teachers

THOUSANDS of Anganwadi workers affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) have been on strike in Karnataka since January 23, 2023. Their primary demand is to be classified as ‘teachers’. They have been sleeping in the open air at Freedom Park in Bengaluru since January 23and are determined to stay the course until their demands are met.Anganwadi centres were set up by the government in 1975 to combat child hunger and malnutrition. They are run by grassroots level workers who are responsible for feeding children as well as pregnant women.

TRIPURA ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS: People Wait to Reject BJP

AMONG the issues like price-hike, loss of livelihood, unemployment, absence of any services in healthcare, education, supply of safe drinking water, electricity and housing etc, most of which are very much acutely prevalent in the state, one core issue has emerged as a crying demand of all sections of people: whether voters of the state would have the opportunity to cast vote by themselves. The Election Commission of India has declared the election schedule to the legislative assemblies of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland on January 18, 2023.

TN: Thousands Gherao Raj Bhavan to Recall Governor

PROTESTING against the governor’s steadfast propagation of obscurantist ideas on various platforms across the state and consistent disregard for constitutional ethos, the CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee organised a gherao of Raj Bhavan at Chennai on January 20.The meeting organised at the gherao site was presided over by K Balakrishnan, state secretary of CPI(M). Polit Bureau member G Ramakrishnan, Central Committee members P Sampath, U Vasuki and P Shanmugam, Madurai MP Su.

Cuba will Continue to Resist Inhuman US Blockade: Aleida

IN the last of the series of meetings as part of Aleida Guevara’s whirlwind tour in India organised by the  National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba held in Delhi, hundreds of young students and general public enthusiastically participated. The meeting was held to extend solidarity of the Indian people with Cuba and oppose the inhuman economic blockade imposed by the US.

Haryana Sugarcane Farmers on Struggle

THE All India Sugarcane Farmers Federation affiliated to the All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued on January 20, has strongly supported the struggle of Haryana sugarcane farmers who have stopped supplying sugarcane to sugar mills from January 20 demanding increase of sugarcane price from the present Rs 362 per quintal to Rs 450 per quintal. This increase is required because of a sharp rise in the cost of production and based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.
