JAMMU AND KASHMIR: CPI(M) Condemns Attack on Nomadic Bakerwals

EXPRESSING grave concern over the attack on the nomadic bakerwals at Talwara, Reasi on April 22, by a mob allegedly led by cow vigilantes, Sham Prasad Kesar, regional secretary CPI(M), Jammu, has demanded immediate  and stern  action against the culprits.  Minor child, a woman and an elderly person are  stated to have been seriously assaulted and beaten up resulting in grave injuries to them. Pertinent to mention here that the nomadic bakerwals of Jammu region  used to move to Kashmir valley  with the onset of summer season with livestock including sheep, goats, cows etc as a routine exerci

TELANGANA: Relay Hunger Strike for Protection of Dharna Chowk

THE Left parties, including the CPI(M), and various mass organisations commenced relay hunger strike demanding the TRS government to continue the dharna chowk at Indira Park in Hyderabad. Started by the Left parties on April 15, the relay hunger strikes by different mass organisations and different sections of the people would continue till the 14th May and culminate into occupation of Dharna Chowk on the 15th May.

TELANGANA: Left Protests TRS Government’s Repression

THE TRS government in Telangana has been continuing its autocratic measures and repression on democratic protests against its failures of commission and omission. The police arrested hundreds of leaders and workers of the Left parties, including the CPI(M), and mass organisations at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram and foiled their attempts to conduct two kilometre run protesting against the KCR government’s undemocratic decision to shift the dharna chowk from Indira park to the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Growing Attacks on SFI in Kerala

THESE days are terrifying for college and university campuses in Kerala. A series of attacks on SFI activists has taken place across the state in the past one month. The ABVP, with the active support of the RSS and the BJP, has been in the forefront of most of these incidents, posing an open threat to democracy on campuses. A number of SFI leaders braved murder attempts. In the past two weeks, more than 30 SFI activists were attacked by these goons.

TELANGANA: Communists Will Give a Fitting Reply to Fascist Forces

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat warned that the Red brigade would not keep quiet, if attempts are made to obstruct the “Polikeka” meeting – the struggle convention for social justice, scheduled to be organised in Hyderabad on March 19 as a culmination to the five-month-long Mahajana Padayatra undertaken by the CPI(M) in Telangana. She made it clear that as the chief minister, it is the responsibility of K Chandrasekhar Rao to see that the “Polikeka” meeting is allowed to be conducted peacefully.

NAGPUR: People Give Fitting Reply to VC’s RSS-Dictated Action

THE Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University every year organises seminars under the Dr Ambedkar Study Centre of the University, which is supposed to be an autonomous body. This year on March 18-19, 2017, a two day seminar was organised on the subject “Decay of Democracy – Challenges and Solutions”. It was decided that this seminar would be inaugurated by Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI(M).

KARNATAKA: Twenty Thousand Anganwadi Workers occupy road to Vidhan Soudha

KARNATAKA anganwadi workers are on an indefinite strike for the last three days (as on March 22, as we go to press) throughout the state. They are demanding legal minimum wage (of Rs 10,000 in Karnataka now for many identified sectors), making their posts permanent, social security benefits etc. There have been many strikes and marches to Vidhan Soudha in the last several years for the same demands.

West Bengal: Unique Exercise in Party Education

A UNIQUE exercise in Party education and exchange of ideas among comrades took place in West Bengal on March 19, when study circles were organised in Party branches throughout the state. The agenda of the study circle was Party Programme.  CPI(M) West Bengal state committee has decided to organise such a single day programme with an aim to educate and re-educate all Party members about the main strategic document of the Party. These study circles would serve as supplementary to organised Party classes and help self-education too.
