AFTER the sixth phase of the parliamentary election, only eight seats remain to go to the polls in the last phase on June 1, 2024, in Bihar. The electioneering has reached a fever pitch with visits from prime minister Narendra Modi and various other BJP leaders, who are perturbed by the groundswell of support for the INDIA alliance from the very beginning. This trend has gathered momentum in the last leg of campaigning.

WB: Red Volunteers in Action

RED volunteers have jumped into relief operations in the areas affected by Cyclone Remal in West Bengal. They are actively engaged in providing relief and rehabilitation to the people. Red volunteers, who provided assistance to people during the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, are once again attending to the needs of those affected by Cyclone Remal. They are moving around the affected areas on scooters and bicycles, delivering necessary relief materials to the people.

Remove Cuba from the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism

THE National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, in a statement issued on May 24, 2024 has demanded the immediate removal of Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism.On May 15, the US had come out with a list excluding Cuba from a list of nations that ‘do not fully cooperate in the fight against terrorism’, which is a welcome but a small step. This however does not mean elimination of Cuba from the general list of the US that designates countries as ‘State sponsors of terrorism’.

AIRTWF Calls for Revoking Uber's Bus Service permit

THE All India Road Transport Workers Federation (AIRTWF), in a statement issued on May 21, has urged the Delhi government to revoke permission for aggregator Uber to operate buses in Delhi. Recent reports from media sources indicate that the transport department of the Delhi government has granted Uber permission to run buses in the city. AIRTWF strongly opposes this decision as it poses significant risks to the drivers, the people of Delhi, and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Odisha: CPI(M) Campaigns against BJD Misrule and BJP’s Jumlabaji

ODISHA has completed two phases of elections, covering 9 Lok Sabha seats and 63 assembly seats. Both the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections are being held together. The state has witnessed multiple visits from prominent BJP figures, notably prime minister Modi, who has made three visits to Odisha in May, along with several central ministers and chief ministers from BJP-governed states. Conversely, BJD leaders, spearheaded by chief minister Naveen Patnaik and political figure Karthikeyan Pandian, formerly a bureaucrat, have also undertaken extensive tours.
