SIR Chaos in Bengal

West Bengal is currently witnessing an unprecedented state of turmoil centered on the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The hearing phase in the process has become a nightmare for ordinary citizens, especially those from marginalised sections of society. Arbitrary and unilateral decisions by the Election Commission (EC) are fundamentally undermining the democratic structure.

Uttarakhand: Struggle Continues in Ankita Bhandari Murder Case

THE Ankita Bhandari murder case that occurred in Uttarakhand in September 2022 is a painful example of the insensitivity towards violence against women in Uttarakhand and the impunity granted to such perpetrators. Ankita was a 19-year-old young woman who left her studies midway to support her family and started working at a resort. The resort belonged to Pulkit Arya, the son of BJP leader Vinod Arya. Ankita was pressured by Pulkit to provide "special services" to a VIP. When Ankita refused, she was murdered.
