ASSAM: AIDWA Holds its Eleventh State Conference

The 11th state conference of AIDWA, Assam was held from September 21-23, at Rangia, Kamrup, the historical place of mass movements. On this occasion, a public meeting was held on the 21st at the Eidgah Maidan. Around two thousand men and women participated in the public meeting which was presided over by Seema Biswas. The meeting started with a song by IPTA, Rangia. The purpose of the meeting was narrated by the state secretary, Niyati Barman.

MANIPUR: Sixth State Conference of AIDWA

THE sixth Manipur state conference of AIDWA was held at Imphal on September 29, 2019 and resolved to strengthen the women's movement and expand the organisation in the state. The conference was attended by 38 delegates including tribal and minority women delegates.A four member presidium consisting of Maibam Randhoni, Chananbam Sundari Devi, Kodunshinglu Kamei and Brahmacharimayum Sandhyarani conducted the proceedings of the conference. The Manipur state conference was guided by Malini Bhattacharya, national president of AIDWA.

Himachal Pradesh: Apple Producers to Protest on October 16

THE Himachal Kissan  Sabha an affiliate of the AIKS has decided to hold a strong protest demonstration on October 16 at Narkanda in Shimla district. The reasons for the protest are; (a) against the loot of the fruit commission agents who have not paid money to the apple growers of the region and (b) against the inept government of the state for not intervening in the market because of which the apple producers are forced for distress sale. People from adjoining places like Rampur, Nankhari, Kotgarh, Kumarsain, Nirmand, Ani, Karsog etc., shall participate in this demonstration.

TAMIL NADU: Theatre Fest Underlines the Importance of Diversity

THE Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association (TNPWAA), along with Madras Kerala Samajam, had organised a five-day South Indian People’s Theatre Festival from October 2, in Chennai. The festival showcased 32 plays in five languages involving more than 500 artists.The festival began with a rally of artists to the venue, Girish Karnad Campus, amid the thunderous drum beats of Paappampadi Jama and Silambattam of boys and girls, on October 2.

Strong Protest against NRC in West Bengal

TENS of thousands of people in West Bengal have come to the streets against NRC proposal at the call of CPI(M) and the Left parties. CPI(M) and the Left have called public rallies, meetings, protest demonstrations on the question of important issues of livelihood of the people. Apart from other issues, NRC or the prospect of it being implemented in West Bengal too has become the focal point of concern among large sections of the people. BJP leaders in West Bengal have consistently threatened to implement NRC in the state too with clear communal overtone.

AIDWA Delegation meets Rape Victim

AN AIDWA delegation comprising Brinda Karat, Subhashini Ali, and other UP leaders; Seema Katiyar-secretary, Neelam Tiwari-joint secretary, Sudha Singh-vice president, Malti Yadav, Pushpa and Maimoona (Delhi) visited Shahjahanpur UP on September 26. Brinda Karat accompanied the family of the rape survivor to the Shahjahanpur district jail and met her.
