Ninth All India Conference of AIFAWH: Anganwadis Declare War against Hunger and Hatred

THE ninth national conference of the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH) has resolved to take up a campaign to free the nation from hatred and discrimination. The four-day conference was held in Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry), Andhra Pradesh and had concluded on November 20, 2019.

Convention of Oil & Petroleum Workers

A NATIONAL convention of oil and petroleum workers was held at the Constitution Club, in New Delhi on November 20. It was jointly organised by trade unions of different affiliations as well as the unaffiliated ones functioning in ONGC, IOC, OIL, BPCL and HPCL. Around 300 representatives from these oil PSUs from all over the country participated in the convention. The delegates came from the states of Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and national capital of Delhi.The inaugural address was delivered by INTUC president G Sanjeeva Reddy.

Citizens’ March against Commercialisation of Education

ON November 23, 2019, thousands of citizens’ joined the March called by Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union against fee hike, administrative authoritarianism, and privatisation and commercialisation of education with a demand to make education affordable, accessible and inclusive to all sections of society. The March called from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar was joined by students of IIT’s, IIM’s, alumni of JNU, trade unions, women’s organisations, Delhi Parents’ Association and members from several organisations.

Slum Dwellers hold massive march in Bhubaneswar

A MASSIVE march of the slum dwellers was held from Saliasahi to Vidhan Sabha on November 22 in Bhubaneswar against their proposed eviction. Later a strong public meeting was held in which more than 20,000 people participated. This seven kilometre march in the city brought the issue of the slum dwellers to the fore.It may be put on record that the slum dwellers of Saliasahi region of the city have not been served any notice directly by the government agencies.

Odisha: Urban workshop in Bhubaneswar

A WORKSHOP on the problems of urban areas and tasks ahead was organised by CPI(M) Odisha state committee at Bhubanewar on Nov 10, 2019. Tikender Singh Panwar from all India centre attended the workshop and inaugurated it. Jagganath Mishra, state secretariat member of the party presided over the meeting where, Suresh Panigrahi, state secretariat member placed the theme paper and future tasks on urban issues. Thirty eight Party leaders and activists working in the cities representing five districts and seven cities including state capital Bhubaneswar attended this workshop.

Tripura: Police denies permission to Kisan Rally

THIS is the new order in Tripura. Here the democratic rights of peaceful protest marches and meetings are denied without a proper cause. On November 13th, police denied permission to a peaceful procession of peasants and agricultural workers. The organisers had sought proper and prior permission for the programme.

AN FIR on financial irregularities against Badal Chowdhury, former minister of PWD, government of Tripura along with two other top officials, Yash Paul Singh, the then chief secretary and Sunil Bhowmik, the then chief engineer, PWD(R&B), was lodged to the West Agartala Police station, on October 13, 2019. GIST OF THE COMPLAINTThe case in reference is regarding PWD tender bid in 2008.

Kerala: Clarity on SC order needed

IN a response to the Supreme Court’s decision on Sabarimala, Kerala chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan on November 14 said that the government has already clarified that it will abide by whatever the apex court decides. However, more clarity is needed on today's decision to leave the matter to the seven member bench. This is majority decision while two judges expressed their dissent. Earlier judgement of five member bench still exists. Apex court did not stay the previous judgement.
