Assam: CPI(M) Delegation Visits Shalonabori Village

ON May 25, a delegation led by CPI(M) Assam state secretary Suprakash Talukdar, Central Committee Member Isfaqur Rahman and MLA Manoranjan Talukdar visited Shalonabori village at Batadrava area under Nagaon district to look into a case of alleged custodial death and police brutality.On May 20, Shafiqul Islam, a poor businessman and a resident of Shalonabori village, was arrested by the police on charges that are unclear. Later, the police reportedly demanded Rs 10,000 for releasing him and when that demand was not met, he was reportedly killed while in custody.

Karnataka Holds Women Agri-Workers Conference

The Karnataka Agricultural Workers Union held its Fourth Women Agricultural Workers Conference in Yadgir district which began with a rally and public meeting attended by thousands of women workers, on May 22. Presided over by state president Swamy Nityanand, it was inaugurated by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat. Speakers included Agricultural Workers Union state secretary Chandrappa Hoskar and AIDWA leader, K Neela and others. A charter of demands including MNREGA workdays, minimum wages, equal wage for agricultural work and other demands were raised.

12th National Convention of Working Women: Intensify Struggles against Exploitation & Discrimination

THE 12th national convention of All India Coordination Committee of Working Women (CITU) held on 21-22 May 2022 at Ranjana Nirula Nagar, Nisha Roy- Shibani Sengupta Manch, Tagar Dey Hall (Binani Bhawan), Kolkata, West Bengal resolved to intensify struggles against the increasing exploitation and discrimination on women in general and working women in particular.On the occasion of the national convention, a public meeting was held on 20 May at Posta, Kolkata. The rally which was organised locally was attended by more than thousand working women and hundreds of local workers.

STFI Conference draws a Roadmap to Fight NEP

8TH ALL India conference of the School Teachers Federation of India was held at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on May 20-22, 2022. It was attended by 657 delegates 23 CEC and 61 observers from 24 school teachers’ organisations having membership of seven lakhs and covering 12 states.The conference focused on three main agendas:·        To draw a road map to fight against NEP - 2020 and strengthen the public education system, arouse a mass movement in favour of secular, democratic and progressive education and promote scientific temper.

Chhattisgarh: One Year since Silger Killings-Tribal Resistance against Corporate Loot Intensifies

IT has been more than a year since five people were killed and around 300 injured in indiscriminate firing by police and armed forces on tribals peacefully protesting against another cantonment being set up on their land in Silger in Chhattisgarh, within two kilometres of an existing security establishment.

Kerala CM Inaugurates KPPL

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the commercial production of newsprint by Kerala Paper Products Ltd (KPPL), the state-owned public sector unit.He said that the government is focussed on modernising the state’s industrial sector, including IT, tourism, biotechnology, agriculture and food industry. Plans are there to establish one lakh new enterprises in the current fiscal and the state has already received Rs 7,000 crore investment offers.

All India Convention of Agricultural Workers

ALL India joint convention of agricultural workers concluded successfully at Harkishan Singh Surjeet Bhawan, New Delhi on May 16. The convention was attended by more than 500 delegates from different states. Convention adopted the charter of demands and decided to hold protests in 500 districts on August 1, 2022,  followed by a one-day rural strike, the date will be decided later.The convention was inaugurated by P Sainath, renowned journalist, Ramon Magsaysay awardee and founder of the People's Archive of Rural India (PARI).
