WEST BENGAL: Jadavpur University Resists Saffron Gangs

STUDENTS and teachers of Jadavpur University rose in unison to resist BJP-ABVP attack on the campus and another saga of protest has begun.The ruckus started with union minister Babul Supriyo entering the university to attend a ‘seminar’ and ‘fresher’s welcome’ organised by the ABVP. The programme, ultimately held, was not attended by Jadavpur University students but by BJP activists of different areas, and of different ages too. As the union minister entered the campus, students held a peaceful protest against him, some showing black flags.

TRIPURA: Youth Upsurge in Agartala

The slogan reverberated in the streets of Agartala, as thousands of youth marched through the city on September 16.The city of Agartala witnessed waves after waves of youth walking past the route from Rabindra Bhavan to Vivekananda Stadium in an organised and determined march at the call of the DYFI and the TYF.The two youth organisations had given the call of  "Agartala Cholo" with a  12 point charter of demands.The youth conventions organised prior to the march had given a hint that the march will be a success.

Youth-Students Resist Brutal Police Attack

LEFT student and youth organisations in West Bengal had organised a massive movement resisting barbaric attacks of police and administration, stirring up the atmosphere of increasing resistance in the state.12 Left student and youth organisations, including the Democratic Youth Federation of India and the Students’ Federation of India, had started a huge campaign on the question of jobs, creation of industries in the state, and access to education for all. PONDICHERRY: SFI Wins Students Council Elections

IN the first phase of the Pondicherry University Students’ Council elections held on August 28, SFI secured a majority of seats contesting alone for the third consecutive year. SFI, along with the SFI supported independent candidates, obtained 27 seats, thus becoming the single largest organisation in the process.The central government has been extensively pushing their interests of privatisation of education through the fund cuts and UGC norms. The Pondicherry University has in turn responded by administering the draconian policies upon the students’ community.

SRINAGAR: CPI(M) General Secretary Meets Tarigami

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury was the first politician outside the Valley to visit Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370. He too had to go through the treatment that opposition leaders under detention are getting in Kashmir.Yechury visited the state after the Supreme Court gave a favourable order in a habeas corpus petition seeking the whereabouts of CPI(M) Central Committee member and four-time MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami.Yechury reached Srinagar airport at around 12 pm on August 30.

TELANGANA: Restore Democracy in Kashmir, Left Parties Demand

Left parties organised a state convention at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Hyderabad, on September 10 demanding the Indian government to protect the democratic rights of the people. State secretariat member of CPI(M), D G Narasimha Rao, presided over the meeting.   K Srinivas, editor of Telugu daily Andhra Jyothi attended the meet as the chief guest and said that people all over the country are talking about Kashmir but the situation there is not as most people imagine. Srinivas said that Kashmir is under full siege and the people were not allowed to observe Muharram rituals.
