Maharashtra: Tribal Women Fight Two Pandemics – Nature-made and Modi-made!

THE unprecedented situation due to the Corona pandemic and the lockdown has not only aggravated the grim situation of women but also exposed the anti-people, anti-women policies and patriarchal ideology of the BJP-led central government.The year 2020 started in Maharashtra on a positive note. The AIDWA 12th national conference concluded with enthusiasm in Mumbai on the eve of the new year. Thereafter, in January and February, AIDWA women in many districts like Mumbai, Thane, Sangli, Solapur and Pune came out in support of the Shaheen Bagh-like protests in those districts.

HATHRAS CRIME: Order Court Monitored Investigation

A CPI(M)-CPI delegation consisting of CPI(M) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury, its Polit Bureau member, Brinda Karat, CPI general secretary, D Raja, and its National Secretariat member, Amarjeet Kaur, visited the family of the Hathras’ rape victim on October 6, and vowed to struggle till justice is done. Uttar Pradesh state secretaries of CPI(M) and CPI, Hiralal Yadav and Girish Sharma, accompanied the delegation.The delegation met the family members of the victim who shared details of the incident and the obstacles posed by the administration.

Haryana: AIKS Struggles Register Successes

AIKS UNITS actively took part in the Haryana bandh on September 20 and Bharat bandh on September 25, in which more than 5,000 kisans  were mobilised at various points across the state. Kisan sabha also actively joined the October 6 massive protest at Sirsa in front of the residence of deputy chief minister, Dushyant Chautala and a cabinet minister, Ranjit Chautala. This action was endorsed and supported by AIKSCC. The protest is going on for a demand that they quit the BJP government by opposing the farm bills. There was a  huge turnout of the farmers at Sirsa rally on October 6.

BSNL Unions to Observe Black Day

THE All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) issued a notice to the DoT and the BSNL management, for observing a ‘black day’ on October 1, 2020, which happens to be the 20th foundation day of BSNL. Instead of celebrating the 20th foundation day, the employees of BSNL have decided to observe it as a black day. This decision was taken, since the future of BSNL and its employees are getting darker by the passage of every single day.It is already six months, since BSNL's  4G tender has been cancelled, on the plea that its conditions had violated government's “make in India” policy.

Bihar: Left part of Mahagathbandan, a Formidable Alternative

THE Bihar assembly election will witness a direct fight between the “Mahagathbandhan”, comprising RJD, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) on the one side and the BJP-JD(U) on the other.The smaller parties representing caste and such other interests, bereft of any social and political ideologies are fighting for their existence by allying with either of the alliances. The situation is still fluid and the last word on the nature of alliance is yet to be written.

Protests across the Country against Farm Bills

KARNATAKAOVERWHELMING response across the state was witnessed to the ‘Karnataka bandh’ call given by kisan organisations on September 28, against anti-workers and three anti-farmers bills (already issued as ordinances).  It was also against three agriculture-related anti-farmer anti-people bills passed recently by the Parliament. Bandh was marked by dharnas, processions, burning of effigies of Modi-Shah and highway blockades. Slogans were raised against anti-farmer and anti-worker policies of state and central governments.
