Assam: Darrang's Farmers' Despair

THE viral images and videos of a photographer jumping on the body of a farmer who was shot dead by the police epitomise the politics of hate the RSS-BJP have systematically injected in Assam. It looked as if mere killing of the farmers could not satiate the hatred indoctrinated among the RSS-BJP followers over the years. In the viral video, Moinul Haque was advancing towards the heavily armed police force with a stick as one last attempt to ward off forcible eviction from his land, destruction of his humble dwelling and crops that were a result of sweat and toil of his family.

Farmers Mowed Down to Death by BJP Minister’s Cars in Lakhimpur Kheri

IN a brutal and inhuman attack on peacefully protesting farmers led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) at Tikonia in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on October 3, 2021, a convoy of vehicles associated with BJP's union minister of state for home Ajay Mishra Teni, his son Ashish Mishra Teni, and other goons ran over several farmer protestors. It is reported that one of the farmers was shot dead by the son of the union minister. Four farmers and one local journalist were killed in the incident, and several others were seriously injured.

TELANGANA: CITU Padayatra Demands Minimum Wages, Restoration of Labour Rights

THE Telangana state committee of the CITU organised a 22-day padayatra covering a distance of 400 km across industrial hubs in the five districts around Hyderabad on the demands of minimum wages and restoration of workers’ rights. A four-member team consisting of S Veeraiah, P Jayalakshmi, Paladugu Bhaskar and Bhoopal undertook the padayatra. While travelling from Koyyalagudem to Pochampalli, the marchers came across a board at the entrance of a company which reads in Telugu: ‘Nee edupe naa edugudala’, or ‘As you shed tears, so I prosper’.
