Verdict on Prashant Bhushan: Display of Intolerance

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 17

THE verdict of the three-member bench of the Supreme Court holding senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt of court is unfortunate and uncalled for. By finding two tweets by Prashant Bhushan tantamount to bringing disrepute to the institution, the court has displayed intolerance to criticism and an illiberal attitude which does not behove the highest court of the land.

Kozhikode Airport Accident & Idukki Landslide

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 8

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its grief at the Air India Express accident in Kozhikode airport which has resulted in the death of 19 passengers and crew members and injuries to 123 others. The crash occurred while the flight from Dubai was landing in inclement weather at the airport.

The PB conveys its heartfelt condolences to all the families who have lost their dear ones.

Solidarity with the People of J&K

The Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-Liberation, All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party – have issued the following statement on August 3.

Protest against Centralisation, Communalisation & Commercialisation of Indian Education

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statements on July 29:

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly denounces the union cabinet decision to unilaterally impose a New Education Policy and rename the ministry of human resource development.
Education is in the concurrent list in our constitution.  It is a gross violation by the central government to impose a New Education Policy unilaterally bypassing all the objections and opposition recorded by various state governments. 

Devastating Floods in Assam: Central & State BJP Govts Failing to Provide Relief

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 20

THE third wave of floods in Assam, a more devastating one, has seriously affected the life and livelihood of more than 35 lakh people. Already 84 people have lost their lives. More than 3000 villages of 24 districts are damaged by land erosion by the mighty Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries. The flood has damaged 1.27 lakh hectares of cropped area and loss of innumerable livestock. Thousands of bridges, embankments, dwelling houses and public properties are washed off.

Reject Online Exams

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 11

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) rejects the unilateral proposal made by the University Grants Commission through a circular issued on July 6. 

This imposes a homogenous national pattern of online/open book examinations where physical mode of examinations may not be possible under the conditions of the pandemic and lockdown.

Remdesivir: Break Patent Monopoly - Issue Compulsory License

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 5, 2020

GILEAD Sciences’ anti-viral drug Remdesivir has shown efficacy in treating Covid-19 patients. Media reports indicate that the US, which is hoarding all drugs found to be useful in combatting the Covid pandemic, has bought the entire stock of Remdesivir from Gilead for the next three months. It will therefore not be available for the rest of the world.
