The Omnipresent Caste

THE CPI(M), while evaluating the State Structure and Democracy in its Party Programme – which was adopted in 1964 and has since been updated – had correctly identified that the bourgeois-landlord system has failed to put an end to caste oppression. The worst sufferers are the Scheduled Castes. The Dalits are subject to untouchability and other forms of discrimination despite these being declared unlawful. Even after 60 years, the CPI(M)’s assessment of the Indian State and society, remains spot on.

Democracy, Not Dynasty

THE core principle of Rabindranath Tagore's "We Are All Kings in this Kingdom" (Amra sabai Raja amader ei Rajar rajotwe) that each person is a sovereign ruler in a true democracy is finding contemporary expression in the United States. While the U.S. government is imposing its imperialist aggression from Gaza to Venezuela, its citizens have taken to the streets in a renewed wave of protest against the Trump administration.

A report in the Indian Express on November 23, 2014, revealed that six such meetings had been held in six months since the Modi government took over.  The same report quoted an unnamed participant in these meetings saying that RSS sah sar-karyavah, Suresh Soni said that during NDA I (the Vajpayee Government of 1999-2004), there was little work done but “lot of propaganda”.

Strengthening the Party for the Advancement of China

Our visit to the province of Hubei province of China was very rewarding. The world’s largest hydroelectric project, the Three Gorges Dam, has been built on the Yangtze River in the Hubei province. Its primary goals are to prevent the floods that regularly trouble riverside communities, to generate electricity on a massive scale, and to facilitate the passage of large ships along the river, apart from other benefits. The astonishing sight of massive cargo vessels and passenger ships crossing the dam is a major attraction, drawing tourists from all corners of the globe.

L&T exits Hyderabad Metro project who are the victims of the PPP models?

The aim of promoting public transport and the role of governments across the globe are quite different to how the Government of India and most state governments look at public transport.L&T, a joint partner of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, left the project well before the expiry of the agreement period and the Government of Telangana took it over, accepting L&T’s conditions of paying the Rs 13,000 crore debt burden. This is the second such metro project in the country.
