Barbaric Attack on SFI Leader by RSS-ABVP Goons

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India, in a statement issued on December 21, has strongly condemned the cold-blooded attack on Subhash Jakhar, SFI Sikar district secretary by the RSS-ABVP criminals. He is admitted to SK Hospital in a critical condition with 25 stitches on his head.  SFI has also condemned in strongest possible words the police attack on the protest demanding immediate arrest of the culprits behind the heinous crime. Hundreds of SFI activists were arrested by the police in Sikar. Many were manhandled and picked up even from the office of SFI.

DYFI Holds Political School

A THREE day political school for leading youth cadre from south Indian states was held in Hosur, Tamilnadu from May 22-24, 2015. Inaugurating the school, Prakash Karat, former youth leader and Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M), said that the classes would help youth activists in achieving clarity on important issues as well as in their ideological development.

A total of 106 young cadre attended the classes, including 32 young women cadre.

SFI Stands in Solidarity With The Fighting Students of FTII

THE Central Executive Committee of the Students Federation of India in a statement issued on June 15 has expressed solidarity with the students of Film and Television Institute of India, FTII who are bravely protesting against the shameless attempts to saffronise one of the prime institutes of the country. An indefinite hunger strike has been launched by the students against the Modi led NDA government's appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the governing council of the FTII.

SFI Congratulates Rajasthan Unit for the Victory in Student Union Elections

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India has in a press release issued on August 26, congratulated the Rajasthan unit of SFI for registering encouraging victory in the recently conducted first phase of the student union elections in the state on August 23, 2014. The second phase of voting will be on August 30, 2014.

The SFI contested in 57 colleges and three universities. It won the full panel in 26 colleges and one university. SFI candidates won the posts of 30 presidents, 32 vice presidents, 30 general secretaries and 31 joint secretaries.

In Focus: Punjab’s Drug Menace

HARSEV Bains, was heading back to London. In Delhi, back after a short visit to his ancestral village in Punjab, Bains, the secretary of the Indian Workers’ Association, Great Britain said “drugs” are going to be a major issue in these polls. That was much before the election campaign had actually begun in the state. Even for a casual observer of the political scene in Punjab, like this writer, the development was not surprising. The state had been plagued by this menace for long and it was high time that the issue was addressed.
