New wave of Resistance in West Bengal

SIGNS are evident enough; West Bengal is in resistance mood.Four and a half year after the change of government, the bitter experiences of the people are now getting crystallised. The all-out attack on opposition voices has spread to wider sections of the people. The state is ruled by the ruffians of the ruling party, from the grassroots level to the top. Economic condition of the state has gone from bad to worse with a completely rudderless government. Anarchy has become the rule of the day in education.

Police Brutality on Peasant March in West Bengal Condemned

RALLIES and demonstrations were held in many areas across the country to protest against the Trinamool Congress government’s highhandedness and police brutality on a peaceful march of peasants and agricultural workers to Nabanna, the West Bengal state secretariat, on August 27 demanding remunerative prices for farm produces, work for the rural poor, payment of wages for work under MNREGA and relief for the flood-affected people.Protest rallies were held in many areas in Delhi, Tripura, Jharkhand and Assam among others.

Police Brutality on Peasant March in West Bengal

THOUSANDS of peasants and agricultural workers braved police attack and marched towards state secretariat Nabanna on August 27. For the first time in the last four and half years, all roads leading to Nabanna, a virtual fortress, were blocked as waves of peasants surged towards the state administrative headquarters.In Howrah city, where Nabanna is situated, police put up barricades in four places to stop the demonstrators. In all four places, police resorted to heavy lathicharge. Hundreds have been injured.

Left Parties Sound The Bugle for Fight Against Corruption

PROTEST rallies and demonstrations were held across the country on July 20 on the call of CPI(M) and other Left parties to expose corruption at high levels in the BJP-led central government as well as in various state governments. PROGRESSIVE forces in Karnataka led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have staged protests opposing a superstitious practice in the garb of religious faith and belief of the people. Functionaries of CPI(M) and several progressive outfits held dharna and procession in Mangalore and Chikkaballapur to register protest and create awareness about the ritual called Made Snana.

Mid-Day Meal Workers March to Parliament

  SCORES of Mid-Day Meal workers held a march to parliament on August 5, in support of their demands including immediate implementation of the declared increase of Rs 1,000 in honorarium and regularisation of jobs of nearly 26 lakh such workers with provision for pension.Nearly 5,000 Mid-Day Meal workers from across the country, under the aegis of the CITU-affiliated All India Coordination Committee of Mid-Day Meal Workers (AICCMDMW), gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the march.
