14th Congress of Communist Party of Vietnam and the Tasks of Socialist Construction

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Hanoi concluded with the adoption of a long-term development strategy aimed at positioning the country to navigate an increasingly volatile global environment. The Congress reaffirmed socialist development, mass participation, disciplined reform, and people-centred governance amid global instability.

The Rupture Within the Global North

MARK Carney is not the person you would expect to deliver the message from within the Global North that their conspiracy to rule the world has ended. The Global North, the Collective West, whatever you want to call it, had formed into a decisive military and political bloc after World War II, which effectively ended the divisions within the Global North and gradually brought all its pieces into a line with the United States at its head.

Contradictions of the Trump Era

LOOKING at approval ratings of US presidents after their first year in office is an interesting exercise. Most presidents in recent years have net negative approval, with more than half of the population disapproving of their work as president. The exception is George W Bush after 9/11, when the US public rallied around the president after the shock of the attack and after his bellicose rhetoric to conduct a War on Terror around the planet.

The Current Situation in Venezuela: A Government in Charge, a People Resilient

On the early morning of January 3, the US government launched a massive attack on Caracas, Venezuela, and three of the country’s states. Roughly 150 aircraft swarmed the skies, bombing with exceptional ferocity. Amongst these aircraft were EA-18 Growlers equipped with the most advanced electronic warfare systems, such as the Next Generation Jammers, as well as AH-64 Apache and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

The Angry Tide Has Washed into Chile.

ON 14 December, the predictable happened: José Antonio Kast, the candidate of the far-right Republican Party, prevailed in the presidential election over Jeannette Jara of the Communist Party of Chile by 58.16 per cent to 41.84 per cent. Kast ran as the candidate of the Cambio por Chile (Change for Chile) platform and was backed by all the parties of the traditional right and the centre-right.

A New Imperial Offensive Against Venezuela

THE United States has opened yet another dangerous chapter in its long history of interventions in Latin America. Under the name “Operation Southern Spear,” Washington has launched a series of lethal strikes in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific, backed by the largest US naval deployment in the region in decades. More than 80 people have already died in these attacks, most of them on small boats that the US claims were connected to drug trafficking. Needless to say, the claims were made without any evidence.

The Angry Tide of the Latin American far right

THE far right in Latin America is angry. Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro and Argentina’s Javier Milei always look furious, and they always speak loudly and aggressively. Testosterone leaks from their pores, a toxic sweat that has spread across the region. It would be easy to say that this is the impact of Donald Trump’s own brand of neo-fascism, but this is not true. The far right has much deeper pedigrees, linked to the defence of the oligarchical families that have roots in the colonial era across the virreinatos (viceroyalties) from New Spain to Rio de la Plata.
