ON November 11, London witnessed the largest of the marches in solidarity with Palestine. Nearly 8,00,000 people marched together from Hyde Park in Central London to the US embassy, demanding immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This, in fact, is the third march organised in London in three weeks – each march bigger than the one held the earlier week. This shows the growing anger among the people against the continuing attacks in Gaza, which has already led to the death of more than 12,000 people. This includes more than 4,000 children.

THE 57th Congress of the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) was held in Croydon, London on November 4-5, 2023. The Congress was held with the slogan ‘For a United Front against Monopoly Capitalism and War’. The CPB witnessed a significant growth in its membership with the influx of a large number of youth into its ranks. The wide ranging trade union struggles that were held in this period, where the communists played a significant role is one of the major factors that led to the growth of the CPB.

ON October 24, it became clear to the United Nations (UN) that the sustained bombardment of Gaza – which had already killed 6,500 people (including at least 35 UN employees) – had made this part of Palestine unviable for human life. Over two million people live in this slim section of land on the Mediterranean Sea. Since 1948, the refugees who live here have relied on UN assistance, with the United Nations building an entire agency (UNRWA) in 1949 for that purpose.

WHO knows how many Palestinian civilians will be killed by the time this report is published? Among the bodies that cannot be taken to a hospital or a morgue, because there will be no petrol or electricity, will be large numbers of children. They will have hidden in their homes, listening to the sound of the Israeli F-16 bombers coming closer and closer, the explosions advancing toward them like a swarm of red ants on the chase.

THE president of US, Joe Biden visited the picket lines of the striking workers on September 26,  2023 and expressed his solidarity. This is big news and should have found a prominent mention in the media all over the world. The president of the most advanced capitalist country and leader of the imperialist pack, expressing his support to workers is after all not a small matter.
