57th Congress of the CPB Resolves to Defeat the Conservatives

THE 57th Congress of the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) was held in Croydon, London on November 4-5, 2023. The Congress was held with the slogan ‘For a United Front against Monopoly Capitalism and War’. The CPB witnessed a significant growth in its membership with the influx of a large number of youth into its ranks. The wide ranging trade union struggles that were held in this period, where the communists played a significant role is one of the major factors that led to the growth of the CPB.

The Power of Workers in the Fight against Capital

THE power of the automobile workers in the US prevailed over the might of the capital. The “stand-up’ strike which lasted for over a month long, was called off  after their trade union, United Auto Workers (UAW), reached agreements with the three automobile giants: General Motors, Stellantis and Ford. This is a major victory for the workers and once again demonstrates the power of the working class.

The Suffocating Occupation of Palestine is now a Series of War Crimes

ON October 24, it became clear to the United Nations (UN) that the sustained bombardment of Gaza – which had already killed 6,500 people (including at least 35 UN employees) – had made this part of Palestine unviable for human life. Over two million people live in this slim section of land on the Mediterranean Sea. Since 1948, the refugees who live here have relied on UN assistance, with the United Nations building an entire agency (UNRWA) in 1949 for that purpose.

The meeting was hosted by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in Izmir, Turkey. The meeting was attended by 121 representatives of 68 parties from 54 countries and 7 parties, who could not attend for various reasons, also sent their greetings.

The Savagery of the War against the Palestinian People

WHO knows how many Palestinian civilians will be killed by the time this report is published? Among the bodies that cannot be taken to a hospital or a morgue, because there will be no petrol or electricity, will be large numbers of children. They will have hidden in their homes, listening to the sound of the Israeli F-16 bombers coming closer and closer, the explosions advancing toward them like a swarm of red ants on the chase.

Workers Force Biden to Visit Picket

THE president of US, Joe Biden visited the picket lines of the striking workers on September 26,  2023 and expressed his solidarity. This is big news and should have found a prominent mention in the media all over the world. The president of the most advanced capitalist country and leader of the imperialist pack, expressing his support to workers is after all not a small matter.

Not the Time for Begging, Calls the G-77 Summit

IN the season of summits, one summit went unnoticed. It is the G-77 Summit organised in Havana, Cuba. G-77 as a group was founded in 1964, by 77 non-aligned nations. India is one of the founding members of this group. Currently the group has 134 developing countries as members and after the UN, it is the largest representative forum of the global south. The black-out of all news of such an important group clearly establishes the elitist bias.

Collaboration, Not Confrontation

LET’S begin with a truism: the Russian invasion of Ukraine will be ended either by defeat of one side or by a diplomatic settlement. That much at least should be beyond debate. A defeat is simply not on the cards, since the west will not allow Ukraine to be totally defeated, and Russia – a major nuclear power – cannot be defeated without the prospect of the introduction of nuclear weapons into the conflict. Since, a defeat of one side or the other is simply not possible, the only way forward is through a diplomatic settlement.

Chipping Off Workers’ Rights

THE joint declaration adopted at the recently concluded G-20 Summit in Delhi had an interesting paragraph. (Spoiler alert: This paragraph is not about Ukraine, climate change or economy per se, which were dealt elsewhere in this issue, but something else). This particular paragraph deals with ‘preparing for the future of work’. Given that the G-20 primarily focuses on economic issues, it is only natural for a paragraph of this nature to find a place in the declaration.
