Arrest the Attackers of Jharna Das: AIDWA

THE All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in a press note issued on January 19, strongly condemned the murderous assault on its national joint secretary and Tripura state secretary, Jharna Das Baidya, MP Rajya Sabha on January 17 by a gang of 30 BJP hoodlums in Agartala town, capital of Tripura. The AIDWA alleged that these hoodlums followed her on motorbikes when she was returning home, threatening and abusing her. They were armed with lathis, hockey sticks, iron rods, etc. These goons barged into her house and ransacked it. They stole cash and other valuables from the house.

Women Condemn Badaun Rape and Murder, Demand Immediate Arrest of Main Culprit

SIX women organisations; AIDWA, NFIW, AIPWA, PMS, AIMSS and AIAMS in a press note released on January 7, condemned the January 3 incident of gang-rape, torture and murder of an anganwadi worker by a mahant (priest)and his henchmen in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The woman sometimes used to visit the temple presided over by the main culprit and when she did not return, her family started looking for her.

In Defence Of Democracy and Farmers’ Movement

DECEMBER 2, leaders of various organisations held an online press conference in support of the demands of the farmers. Justice for LSR Student

THE Delhi state committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on November 9, expressed dismay at the recent death of a promising young woman, who came to study in the national capital with a bundle of dreams. A second-year BA Mathematics student of LSR College was forced to end her life on November 3, 2020.Hailing from Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, she was a topper in the state in class 12.  She comes from a modest family background where sending a daughter for higher education in Delhi was itself a challenge.

Erroneous Judgement of Allahabad HC

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly feels that the Allahabad High Court's judgement which refused to protect a young couple who had approached it for protection from any coercive action presumably from their family or the police, is totally erroneous.In a statement issued on November 2, AIDWA said that the couple had approached the court in a writ petition after they got married under Hindu rites. While the boy was a Hindu, the girl had converted to Hinduism from Islam.

AIDWA Protests against Hathras Horror, Demands Resignation of UP CM

THE Hathras horror has shown once again that Uttar Pradesh under the BJP-RSS rule of Yogi Adityanath has become a hotbed of crimes against women, with daily incidents of kidnapping, rape and murder. The political patronage given to criminals in UP has led to a jungle raj with goons moving around with impunity.During the Unnao case, the CBI had explicitly stated that one IAS officer and two IPS officers were found guilty of dereliction of duty and action should be taken against them.

AIDWA Condemns Naming of Brinda Karat in Chargesheet

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on September 26, has strongly condemned the naming of its patron, Brinda Karat, in two disclosure statements filed with a chargesheet by the Delhi police obviously at the behest of the BJP government at the centre and specifically the home ministry. The naming falsely and preposterously seeks to make her also responsible for the communal violence in North East Delhi.

Waive SHG Loans during Pandemic

SIX national women's organisations wrote to the minister of rural development, Narendra Singh Tomar demanding immediate withdrawal of the government’s decision to collect the outstanding loans from the Self Help Group (SHG) women.According to reports, the outstanding bank loans to about 54.57 lakh SHGs across the country, amounted to about Rs 91,130 crore at the end of March, of which Rs 2,168 crore or only 2.37 oer cent were NPAs.
