Condemn US Withdrawal from Nuclear Deal

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on May 9PRESIDENT Trump’s announcement of the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran is an unwarranted and irresponsible step that needs to be strongly condemned. The threat of imposing sanctions on Iran is illegal and should be resolutely opposed by the United Nations.The nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Iran and six countries – the United States, Russia, China, France, UK and Germany – had worked well so far.

Indian History Congress on Red Fort

THE Indian History Congress, in a statement issued on May 2, has said that it is greatly perturbed at the announcement that Dalmia Bharat, a cement company with no known experience of maintenance of monuments is being made the custodian of the Red Fort of Delhi, a major national monument. It has also been announced that other monuments, including the Taj Mahal, are also in line for being handed over to similar private parties.The terms on which the Red Fort is to be handed over to Dalmia Bharat are disturbingly broad.

CPI(M)  Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on April 25.THE CPI(M) welcomes the judgment holding Asaram and two others guilty of rape of a minor in August 2013. It is a case of a so-called godman exploiting the faith and belief of his followers to sexually exploit a minor and deserves the strongest punishment.This is a victory for justice in a case which saw the use of violence and intimidation against the victim and her family. Nine witnesses were attacked of which three died.

No Interference in Judges Appointment

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on April 26.THE collegium of the Supreme Court had forwarded the names of Justice K M Joseph and senior advocate Indu Malhotra to be elevated as judges to the Supreme Court.After considerable delay the appointment of Indu Malhotra has been cleared. However, the government has not cleared the appointment of Justice K M Joseph.

Southern Ministers' Meet Demands Change in Finance Commission's Terms of Reference

AN unusual gathering of finance ministers from   South Indian states demanded the centre to change the terms of reference of the 15th finance commission which is expected to lessen the powers of the states. The meeting held on April 10, at Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala has decided to prepare a memorandum on this regard. The five ministers will again meet at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to finalise the draft of the memorandum and invitation will be sent to finance ministers of other states too.
