AARM Condemns Com Subhash Munda’s Brutal Killing
THE Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM), in a statement issued on July 27, has strongly condemned the heinous murder of Comrade Subhash Munda on July 26. Comrade Subhash Munda was a respected leader among the adivasis in Jharkhand, who tirelessly worked for their rights and strived diligently to unite them against dispossession, injustice, and livelihood threats.
Comrade Subhash Munda came from a family that had a history of leading adivasis in land struggles against oppression by landlords, dating back to the 1960s, when his grandfather, Com Sukra Munda, spearheaded several land struggles in Daladali.
Comrade Subhash Munda carried on this legacy of resistance as he continued to lead adivasis in Jharkhand, particularly in the Ratu-Nagri-Mandar-Chanho region of Ranchi. Since 2010, he served as the regional convenor of AARM in the Chhotanagpur area of Jharkhand, tirelessly organising adivasis under the banner of Democratic Youth Federation of India and the Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch.
Notably, he played a significant role in the struggle against the displacement of adivasis in Hatia. He had contested in assembly elections as the CPI(M) candidate. He was very popular among the masses. His dedication to fighting against displacement and injustice was seen as a major threat by the local mafia and political adversaries.
The widespread public response to the horrific murder of Comrade Subhash Munda serves as a testament to his popularity and the significance of his work. The Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM) condemns this brutal attack and pledges to carry forward his legacy. AARM calls upon the Ranchi police and Jharkhand government to immediately arrest the culprits responsible for this crime and bring them to justice.
