A ONE-day Bal Sangam workshop was organised at Cheema Bhawan, Chandigarh, on June 23, 2023. More than 100 boys and girls from ten districts of Punjab participated in the workshop. They mainly belonged to the age group of 12-18, but a few were even less than 10 years old. MA Baby, CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member and former education minister of Kerala, highlighted the importance of sports, music, dance, cultural activities, and entertainment in addition to studies in the lives of students. He urged them to participate in these activities alongside their studies, as it would contribute to their overall development. He also encouraged the children to draw inspiration from great patriots and revolutionaries, emphasizing that children are the future of the nation.
Asha Misra, convenor of the People's Science Movement, interacted with the children, going from one boy/girl to another, and asked about their preferences and choices on various issues. The children became very excited and enthusiastically shared their opinions. A boy and girl who had participated in the national Bal Sangam workshop at Thiruvanthapuram (Kerala) also shared their experiences during the workshop.
Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon, CPI(M) state secretary informed that similar workshops would be organised at the district level from August 16 to September 30, 2023. The children would be taken to historical places in Punjab to gain firsthand knowledge, and music, painting, and dance competitions would also be organised at the district level. Gurnek Singh Bhajjal and Abdul Sattar were appointed as the convenor and co-convenor of Punjab Bal Sangam.
