Dear Comrades,
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is deeply shocked to learn the sudden demise of Comrade Chris Matlhako, secretary of International Relations of the South African Communist Party (SACP). He was only 58 years old. He was a member of the Central Committee, when he breathed his last.
Comrade Chris Matlhako was a strident fighter against apartheid and injustice, who rose through the ranks of SACP and served the Party and people of South Africa in various responsibilities. He was a great internationalist who championed the cause of the people of the developing and under-developed countries. He was an active member of the Working Group of the IMCWP (International Meeting of the Communist and Workers’ Parties) contributing to strengthen international solidarity networks amongst Communist and Workers’ Parties. Comrade Chris was a prolific writer on the issues confronting the people of African continent and his writings informed the international audience about the developments with a Marxist perspective.
The CPI(M) lost a true friend in the death of Comrade Chris. The CPI(M) extends its heartfelt condolences to the SACP and the family members of Comrade Chris. Carrying on the fight for an egalitarian world and for a society free of exploitation is the only true tribute to Comrade Chris Matlhako.
