AIKS Holds Consultative Meeting Of Sugarcane Farmers
THE All India Kisan Sabha held a consultative meeting of sugarcane farmers to address the different issues faced by these farmers. The meeting was held at BTR Bhavan, New Delhi on July 23, 2014. Around 40 Delegates from eight sugarcane growing states participated in the meeting. AIKS president Amra Ram presided over the meeting. AIKS general secretary Hannan Mollah placed the introductory remarks. AIKS joint secretary Vijoo Krishnan placed the paper outlining the changing sugar policy overtime under neo-liberal economic policies, and issues like decontrol, sugarcane pricing, arrears of farmers and related issues. The experience of Sugarcane Farmers' Association in Tamilnadu and Andhra/Telangana was also analysed.
Delegates spoke about the specific problems in their states and shared their experiences. K Varadharajan, vice president, N K Shukla, joint secretary and Krishna Prasad, finance secretary of AIKS attended the meeting.
