AIDWA Demands Stern Action Against Brutal Murder of a Young Woman in Budgam
THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on March 17, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a young woman in Budgam (Kashmir). On March 7, Arifa Jan went for coaching class but failed to return home. Her brother lodged a missing report with the police on March 8. The police interviewed several suspects and after sustained interrogation, one Shabir Ahmad Wani of Mohandpora Budgam confessed to the murder of the missing girl.
We have recently seen other cases of brutal murders of women shocking the nation. This is one more such incident where the culprit has cut the body parts into pieces and buried them at various places. With his disclosure they have been able to uncover these body parts.
The macabre nature of this killing has shocked society. People in various areas, particularly locals, have staged protest demonstrations and demanded harsh punishment to all the accused in the crime. A delegation of the Women’s Association of Kashmir visited the bereaved family and has condemned the brutal incident. They have sought exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of such a heinous crime.
It is disheartening that on the day the rest of the nation was celebrating ‘International Women’s Day’, such atrocities continue unabated. We are witnessing frequent incidents of crimes against women with kidnapping, rape and unimaginably cruel murders. The BJP government at the centre ignores these heinous crimes indirectly encouraging violence against women.
AIDWA will hold protests and demands that immediate protection be given to the family of the victim and severe action be taken against the perpetrator of the brutal murder.
