Delhi: CPI(M) Protests Anti-People Union Budget

THE Delhi state committee of CPI(M) held a dharna at Jantar Mantar on February 28 to protest against the anti-people budget of the Modi government. The dharna was addressed by CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury who termed the central government's budget as a brazen attack on the people.

Public sector enterprises are being handed over to corporates for a pittance. Loans worth lakhs of crores taken by big capitalists from public sector banks have been written off. The number of billionaires in India has seen a big increase in the period of the corona pandemic due to the loot of public property. This is what the Modi government is undertaking in the garb of development. On the other hand, in the last two years, 23 crore people have been pushed below the poverty line. The gap between rich and poor is increasing.

The economy cannot be brought back on track without increasing the purchasing power of the people. It is not possible to solve the problem of unemployment without increasing government investment. But the government is pursuing a policy opposite to this. People’s pockets are being emptied by imposing GST on food items and essential goods and medicines. The cheap ration that was being given has also been taken away in this budget. Efforts are on to divert the growing dissatisfaction among the public by creating communal tension. In such a situation, it is necessary that the widest sections of the people are mobilised against the policies of the Modi government. The situation demands the unity of all Left parties and other democratic forces to defeat the BJP.

The protesters were also addressed by KM Tiwari, Delhi state secretary of CPI(M), Vikram Singh, joint secretary of All India Agricultural Workers’ Union and Asha Sharma, Sehba Farooqui and Subir Banerjee all members of the Delhi state secretariat of the Party. Anurag Saxena, also a state secretariat member presided over the meeting.
