Enthusiastic Response to AIAWU Conference

THE announcement of the eighth All India Conference of the All India Agricultural Workers Union from July 30 to August 2, 2014 at the office bearers meeting held at Hyderabad on July 16, has had a snowballing effect on the poorest and the most oppressed in the country. The conference will represent membership from 14 states. The number of delegates has reached 831. Not the least is the fact that the state of Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana and Andhra) has increased its membership beyond last year to 16, 05,912 from 14, 63,827. The total membership, is likely to cross 53 lakhs which will make it the largest organisation of rural labour in the country and the second largest in Asia. The venue of the conference is named P Sundarayya Nagar after one of the founders of agricultural workers movement and the leader of the Telangana peoples armed struggle. The chief speaker at the rally on July 30 will be Manik Sarkar, chief minister of Tripura. On July 31, the conference will be inaugurated by the noted economist Prof. Prabhat Patnaik and the inaugural address at the delegate session will be delivered by S Ramachandran Pillai. On August 1, a seminar will be addressed by the well known journalist and activist for the rights of the downtrodden, P Sainath.
