VETERAN CPI(M) leader and ‘Emeritus Tamilar’. N Sankaraiah turned 101 on July 15. Considering the prevailing spread of Corona in the state, the CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee has advised the party units to celebrate the occasion in a safe manner within their areas and not to disturb the leader by rushing to his house. Accordingly, various district committees organised local programmes to recall his more than 80 years of public service.

In a message released on completion of his centenary year, N Sankaraiah said that it is very much necessary to strengthen the Left and Democratic Front in order to ensure the progress of the people of this country and to lead the people’s struggles. Hence, the main task before us is to develop the Left and Democratic Front. Only such a front will help us to achieve our goals. Hence, all sections of people should take a pledge to undertake such an important task and concluded his message with a clarion call of ‘Inquilab Zindabad!’

A team of leaders consisting of G Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Member, K Balakrishnan, state secretary of CPI(M), other Party leaders like A K Padmanabhan, T K Rangarajan, A Soundararajan,  P Sampath, U Vasuki, P Shanmugam, K Kanagaraj, S Kannan, R Velmurugan, D Ravindran, Sami Natarajan, B Jhansi Rani, S A Perumal, V Rajasekaran met Sankaraiah at his house and conveyed their greetings to him in person.

GREETINGS FROM OTHER PARTY LEADERS

The Tamil Nadu chief minister, M K Stalin who is currently in quarantine due to Corona conveyed his greetings to Sankaraiah through a Twitter message recalling his long public service. State minister T M Anbarasan, MLA, Karunanidhi also met Sankaraiah and conveyed their best wishes to him for long and eventful life. At that time, Sankaraiah also conveyed his best wishes for a speedy recovery of M K Stalin.

Veteran CPI leader, R Nallakkannu also called upon Sankaraiah and conveyed his wishes in person.

As part of the celebrations in the districts, a commemorative plaque was erected at Velachery, Chennai which was unveiled by the state health minister, M Subramanian. On this occasion, at Madurai, a library named after the Communist pioneer,  ComradeSingaravelar was declared open by Theekkathir editor, Madhukkur Ramalingam at the Madurai district committee office.
