Left Front to Organise Protest Actions in Districts
Inspiring Sit-in
THE Left Front has decided to extend the protest demonstrations to districts against terror and attacks on democratic rights of the people. After the successful sit-in in Kolkata on June 25-27, Left parties and mass organisations will organise sit-in and other forms of protest at local levels. This has been announced at the concluding rally of the Kolkata sit-in. Biman Basu, addressing the rally said that from now on sit-in and demonstrations would be organised in front of police stations wherever attacks on Left supporters would be perpetrated. Later, from its meeting Left Front has called for organising local level agitations and campaigns on burning issues of the people, including spiraling price rise.
Kolkata sit-in reflected the determination of the Left activists to not accept the adverse situation and relentless attack of the ruling party. Hundreds of Left activists participated in the rally throughout the three days at a stretch. The sit-in started with a rally and concluded with a huge rally. In between, families of the martyrs, district leaders of Left parties and mass organisations narrated their experiences. In an unprecedented fashion, the sit-in remained awake and active even in the dead of night. Cultural programmes continued throughout the night. Theaters of protest, recitations, popular songs reverberated in the heart of Kolkata even in the midnight. Left Front leaders including Biman Basu and CPI(M) state leadership remained in the sit-in, providing further inspiration to hundreds who gathered.
In the concluding rally on 27th, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee asserted that the Left Front will stand beside all victims of Trinamool terror. He stated, “who is going to save the common people from the violent terror of the ruling party? Is it police administration? Trinamool organises all violent attacks, assisted by the state police. So we are now on the road to protest against the anarchy. We are committed to stay with the common people everywhere. Who other than the Left would stand by the toiling masses?”
Bhattacharjee cautioned about the menace of the BJP and said, “BJP has never been an alternative in the struggle for democratic rights. RSS is now trying to expand their network in the state. Should we allow them to do politics on temple-mosque controversy? Should we allow them in the land of Rabindranath, Nazrul?”
Bhattacharjee also said, as BJP can never be an opposition of Trinamool, Trinamool can also never be an opposition to BJP in Delhi. It is the Left who will offer steadfast opposition to BJP, he said.
