UP: SFI State Conference Resolves to Fight NEP

16TH UTTAR PRADESH state conference of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) was held successfully on January 22-23, 2022 in Sultanpur.

The two-day state conference was inaugurated by SFI all India president, V P Sanu. He talked about anti-student policies of the BJP government like the disastrous National Education Policy (NEP) and NEET, saffronisation, privatisation, centralisation, corporatisation and communalisation of education.

Sanu extended revolutionary greetings to the Uttar Pradesh state committee for its struggle against such anti-student policies and highlighted the importance of organised student movements. The conference was also addressed by JNUSU president, Aishe Ghosh. She focused on growing drop-out rates in schools and colleges due to fee hikes and digital divide, BJP’s anti-people policies and growing communalism in Uttar Pradesh. Representatives from fraternal organisations such as DYFI, AIDWA, AIKS and CITU also greeted the conference.

SFI all India joint secretary, Dipsita Dhar addressed the state girls' convention and explained the need for a women sub-committee in the organisation. Khushbu presented the report for the girls' convention. All women delegates from different districts in Uttar Pradesh presented their views on the report, along with personal experiences with the organisation and with society at large. The convention elected a nine-member women sub-committee of the state, with two vacant seats. Khushbu was elected as convener and Kavita and Jahnavi as co-convenors of the girls' sub-committee.

The conference resolved to fight against anti-student policies including the National Education Policy 2020, and NEET. The conference also passed resolutions against the digital divide, unemployment and student dropout. The conference resolved to fight against violence on women, caste atrocities, environmental degradation and attack on minorities.

The conference elected a 19 member state committee, with two vacant seats included. The newly formed state committee elected a seven-member secretariat, with Suyash as president, Vivek as secretary. Khushbu, Mayank and Prabudh were elected as vice presidents, and Shivam and Rajeev were elected as joint secretaries.

A total of 75 delegates from 15 different districts and educational institutions across Uttar Pradesh participated in the conference. The discussions and deliberations which happened in the conference, and the future tasks adopted, will guide the newly elected state committee in leading the organisation in Uttar Pradesh.
