AT the call of the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE), hundreds of power sector employees and engineers started the second day of the four-day Satyagraha at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 4. The protest was against the unilateral announcement of the central government to pass Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the current monsoon session of parliament. The second day was meant for Eastern India.

By 10 am in the morning, more than one hundred members of NCCOEEE constituents reached the venue. The venue was surrounded by hundreds of Delhi police and paramilitary forces. Electricity employees and engineers were not allowed to enter the venue. Even standing on the road was not allowed by the police.

NCCOEEE leaders approached the Parliament Street Police Station authorities. They informed that ministry of home affairs has banned any sort of demonstrations in Delhi near the parliament. Hundreds of electricity employees and engineers protested by shouting slogans against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021. The police authorities came there and threatened the electricity employees to disperse or get arrested.

NCCOEEE meeting resolved to continue the demonstration on August 5th and 6th also. It called upon all its constituents to demonstrate against the bill and against the undemocratic steps of the government to curb the democratic rights of the employees as well as of the people, in all the states on August 9, 2021.

NCCOEEE urged upon the government to stop the process of legislation of Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 immediately. It reiterated its clarion call to make the August 10th strike a grand success in the history of power sector.
