Telangana Formation Day Observed

ONLY communism has the power to solve people's problems, asserted the leaders of various Left parties who spoke at an online public meeting organised on ‘Telangana Formation Day- People's Demands Day’, on June 2. They said that the Kerala government led by the Left Democratic Front had set an example by effectively combating the Covid-19 pandemic while the BJP government miserably failed in doing so and has surrendered to the pressures of the corporates during the crisis period.

The meeting was presided by CPI(M) state secretariat member DG Narasimha Rao who proposed a condolence resolution for the workers who died in the Singareni mine accident and also to George Floyd, the African American who was killed by racist policemen in the USA.

About 1.15 thousand people viewed the first online public meeting organised by the Party that extended for 2.15 hours.

CPI(M) state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram  expressed concern over the negligent attitude of the Modi government in controlling the spread of the Covid-19. He said that when the Janata curfew was first imposed on March 22, there were only 396 cases, and now when around two lakh cases have been reported, the lockdown is being relaxed.  He condemned the Modi government for giving financial aid to corporates during the crisis period and neglecting the common people. Veerabhadram demanded Rs 7,500 to be given to non-tax paying families for six months to help them tide over the financial burden during the lockdown.

Veerabhadram said that the Modi government has bowed down to the USA and has initiated the process to privatise India’s coal mines, public sector undertakings and even the space science. He also said that the BJP is also provoking anti-Muslim sentiments in the country to benefit politically. In Kerala, the LDF government stood with the people in reducing corona cases and has stood as an ideal state in the country. He said that both the state and the central governments are encouraging privatisation of vital sectors like health, education, electricity and water which should be under the government control. He also called upon the people to get ready for militant struggles against the policies of the government. He questioned the Telangana government for its failure to pay complete salaries to its employees even as it boasts to be the richest state in the country in all sectors.

CPI state secretary Chada Venkata Reddy said that the aspirations of the people who fought for the separate state of Telangana have not been released yet and demanded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government to publish a white paper on water, funds and appointments. Potu Rangarao, leader of New Democracy said that the TRS forgot hundreds of promises it made and that the intellectuals, parties and organisations are unable to voice their concerns in the state. CPI(ML) New democracy leader K Govardhan said that the state chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is trying to sell the resources of Telangana and that the state government is encouraging multinational companies to invest in the agricultural sector. SUCI state secretary Murahari said that Telangana got liberated but people lost freedom. MCPI (U) state secretary Ravi, RSP state secretary Janaki Ramulu and other Left leaders participated in the meeting.
