ON the International Women’s Day, when the Constitution, the country and communal amity is under attack from forces of division and hatred, the Delhi Union of Journalists(DUJ) and its gender committee calls for peace and communal harmony.  The statement in this regard was issued on Mrach 7 by the DUJ. “We salute our brave sisters who are leading peaceful struggles to defend the citizenship rights of all our peoples”, the said the statement.

The DUJ called upon all journalists to promote amity through their work and abjure biased and divisive reportage and commentary in this critical period.

On the International Women’s Day the DUJ stated that “we recognise that women bear the burden of keeping the home fires burning despite loss of jobs and incomes, that too many are bringing up children in adversity and that they are deeply vulnerable during riots and disasters.”

The DUJ demands that social media platforms such as facebook and twitter take immediate measures to stop abuse on their sites, so that media women are not deterred from doing their jobs freely and fearlessly. Cyber bullying must be stopped

The resolution was moved by the DUJ general secretary, Sujata Madhok and seconded by the president and treasurer, was adopted by the DUJ executive at its meeting on March 7 on International Women’s Day eve.
