Chief Minister Conspiring to Thwart Fair elections
From Our Special Correspondent in Kolkata
LEFT Front chairman Biman Basu addressing a press conference on April 22 alleged that Mamata Banerjee is impeding peaceful election process by her continuous provocative and incendiary speeches. He further added that Trinamool Congress and its leader Mamata Banerjee are involved in a deep conspiracy to subvert the election process in West Bengal.
Biman Basu said chief minister Mamata Banerjee is ruining the prestige of West Bengal by her ungainly speeches at public gatherings.
Basu said massive amount of black, unaccounted for money is being used by Trinamool Congress. Trinamool Congress is also using criminals and anti-socials for intimidating voters.
Biman Basu said the chief minister is spreading unnecessary panic by her repeated banters regarding a ‘plot’ to assassinate her. He said this is a deliberate method to rouse her supporters into acts of violence against CPI (M) activists and unleash a reign of terror that would discourage voters from casting their votes. Referring to the murder of CPI (M) activist Sheikh Hiralal, Biman Basu said he was killed due to bogus and provocative statements issued by the chief minister.
Biman Basu stated that Left Front has addressed as many as seventy seven letters to the Election Commission regarding various issues related to elections. In spite of this amount of correspondence, Biman Basu said there had been violence during the first phase of polls. Voters had been obstructed and intimidated by the ruling party in Coochbehar. He said, one of the prime reasons behind this was that the Election Commission had paid less heed to the list of problem prone booths which had been submitted to it by the Left Front.
Biman Basu said, Election Commission should ensure all election rules and regulations are abided with. He said for the remaining four phases the Election Commission should pay more attention to inputs from the Left Front regarding problem prone booths and ensure that the people of Bengal get to vote in a free and healthy ambience.
Biman Basu urged Election Commission of India to intervene to ensure free and fair polls in West Bengal. He appealed to the people of West Bengal to distinguish between proficient, principled elements and evil, villainous forces.
Meanwhile, addressing a series of public rallies in West Bengal, the Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar called upon the people of the state to assert their democratic right of voting. Sarkar said, resist if someone puts impediments in your process of voting. Resistance by the people will force the hoodlums of the ruling party to flee.
Sarkar lamented that the TMC government has brought great misery to the people of West Bengal in the name of their so-called ‘Poribortan’. So, they are facing popular rejection. “The Government of Maa-Mati-Manush is not needed anymore”, he said. On the other hand, the central government led by Congress has left the people in great distress. The BJP should not be elected as their successor to form the government because there is no elementary difference between their economic policies. More over, they endorse a religious fundamentalist agenda. The Leftists are the only representatives of people’s interests, he said.
