The 11th state conference of AIDWA, Assam was held from September 21-23, at Rangia, Kamrup, the historical place of mass movements. On this occasion, a public meeting was held on the 21st at the Eidgah Maidan. Around two thousand men and women participated in the public meeting which was presided over by Seema Biswas. The meeting started with a song by IPTA, Rangia. The purpose of the meeting was narrated by the state secretary, Niyati Barman. Apart from the all India president, Malini Bhattacharya and general secretary, Mariam Dhawale, the meeting was addressed by state vice presidents Satyabati Bhuyan and Madhuri Devi. All the speakers dealt at length the present socio economic political situation of the country as well as of the state. All of them asked the women folk to come forward to strengthen the organisation at this crucial juncture.

The delegate session started around 5pm on the same day at the famous Haradutta Biradutta Bhavan by hoisting of flags by Seema Biswas and ten other senior members including founder secretary Regina Khatun. Floral tributes were offered at the martyrs column.

To run the delegate session smoothly, various committees were formed. The presidium consisted of Seema Biswas, Satyabati Bhuyan, Madhuri Devi, Meera Tamuly, Bimala Lahan and Manowara Ahmed. Steering committee comprised Niyati Barman and others secretariat members, minutes committee comprised Lily Kalita, Manomati Deka and Prativa Bayan and credential committee comprised Ratna Deb, Bhadrawati Rai, Anu Rizal and Swarnalata Baral.

All together, 230 delegates participated in the session.

Sabita Lahkar, president of the reception committee gave the welcome address and narrated in detail the historical background of the place and appreciated the democratic people of Rangia for extending all possible help in all respects to make the conference a grand success. She also extended her warm greetings to all the participants.

The session was inaugurated by Malini Bhattacharya. She explained in detail the history of AIDWA, the present socio political and complex economic scenario of the country. While talking about the atrocities on women, she asked all the participants to come forward to strengthen the organisation and to organise protest programmes against all these evils. Mass movements are necessary to counter the onslaughts coming from RSS backed BJP governments in the centre as well as in the state. Democracy, communal harmony and secularism are under severe attack, she said.

The draft organisational report of the state committee was placed by the state secretary Niyati Barman. The international, national and state political scenario and organisational activities during the last three years got placed in the report. The future work plan was also mentioned in the report. All together 45 delegates participated in the discussion of the draft report. They participated in a constructive manner and wished the organisation to be strong. While deliberating, they mentioned the organisational position on membership, continuity of organisational activities, rising atrocities on women, price rise of essentials, unemployment problems and job loss, NRC in Assam, the CAB, flood and erosion problems, evictions etc. After discussions and replies, the draft report was accepted unanimously. The session adopted eight resolutions including future organisational programmes. A 57-member state committee was formed with Meera Tamuly, Juni Dutta Choudhury and Mira Debi as advisers, Dipti Barchetia as president, Niyati Barman as secretary and Dipali Mazumdar as treasurer. The session elected 14 delegates to the all India conference to be held at Mumbai from December 27-30, 2019.

Delivering the concluding speech, Mariam Dhawale asked all the participants to work hard to strengthen the organisation, to enroll more and more membership, to maintain continuity in the organisational works, to build more vigorous movements against atrocities on women with the help of other peace loving and democratic people.

Addressing the conference, Seema Biswas asked all to come forward to make AIDWA stronger in the coming days. She congratulated the new state committee and requested all to work overtime to make the organisation stronger. She also thanked all the people of Rangia for making the conference a success in all respects by their generous contributions. She also thanked the reception committee for their hard work to make the conference a grand success.
