Jyotish Saha

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays tributes to the memory of Comrade Jyotish Saha, former member of the Tripura state committee of the Party and former chairman of the State Control Commission. He died on May 24, 2019 aged 85.

Jyotish Saha came in touch with left student movement while in college. He joined the undivided CPI in 1953. When the CPI(M) was formed he sided with it.

A primary school teacher, he played an important role in organising teachers in non-government schools. He was also involved in various cultural activities in the state.

Jyotish Saha was elected to the state committee of the Party at its 19th conference. His request to be relieved at its last conference owing to ill health was accepted.

V Sundaram

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade V Sundaram, former member of the Tamil Nadu state committee of the Party. He died on March 8, 2019 aged 71.

Sundaram joined the united party at a very young age. A bank employee, he organised bank employees under the banner of the BEFI in Tamil Nadu was one of its all India leaders. He was also active in the writers association.

He was the secretary of the Madurai rural district committee of the Party from 2001 to 2008. Later on, he became the general manager of the Madurai edition of Party’s Tamil daily, Theekathir. He was actively involved in Party education.

Mangaleswari Debbarma

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays respectful homage to the memory of Comrade Mangaleswari Debbarma, former member of the Tripura state committee of the Party and former president of the AIDWA in Tripura. She died on June 5 at the age of 93.

Hailing from a peasant family, Mangaleswari married Comrade Dasarath Debbarma, in the peak of the resistance movement led by Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) against the repression of the then king’s army in 1950. She had to remain underground for a period of one and half years during that time.

She joined the undivided communist party in 1953 and dedicated her life to building the Party and mass organisations. She played an active role in organising the women’s movement in the state. She also was the vice chairman of State Women’s Commission for some time.

Mangaleswari Debbarma was elected to the Tripura state committee of the Party in 2008. She was relieved in 2015 on health grounds.

Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, presidium member and former general secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).

Comrade Zafar is remembered for his dynamic role in the student movement, through which he was initiated into politics. He was also an active fighter in the struggle for liberation of Bangladesh. Inspired by the ideals of Marxism-Leninism, he subsequently joined the communist movement and served the CPB in various capacities from the grassroots to the national level. His contributions to the spread and strengthening of the communist movement in the country are immeasurable. His death is a grave loss to the communist and Left movement in Bangladesh.

Ranabahadur Debbarma

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of Comrade Ranabahadur Debbarma, former member of the Tripura state committee who was killed consequent to an attack by suspected IPFT goons on March 16, 2019. He died on April 1, 2019. He was 75.

Ranabahadur Debbarma’s important role as a seasoned and senior leader of the Ganamukti Parishad, in championing tribal-non-tribal unity had earned him the wrath of extremist outfits long back. Though he had survived an earlier attempt on his life, it left him disabled permanently.

He once again became a target attack after the installation of the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura. His house was burnt down. On March 16 while he was returning home from a market, he was hit on the head and succumbed to his injuries.

Ranabahadur Debbarma became a member of the Party in 1967. He was a member of the state committee of the Party for a long time. He was relieved from the state committee at its last conference.

Mettayil Selvaraj

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of Comrade Mettayil Selvaraj, a Party worker from Udumbanchola of Idukki district in Kerala.

Selvaraj was brutally attacked by Congress workers participating in a victory procession after the announcement of the results.

He died on June 1, 2019 while undergoing treatment.

Raju Halder

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of Comrade Raju Haldar, a Party worker from South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Halder was chopped to death in his house in an attack involving more than two dozen goons owing allegiance to the Trinamool Congress goondas on June 6, 2019. He was 27 years old.

The Central Committee salutes to the memory of Comrades Mir Hekarat Ali, from Paschim Medinipur who was killed on March 21; Ajoy Mandal from South 24 Parganas who was killed on April 17; Sk Kamrul who was killed on May 5 and Tanomy from Bankura district who was killed on May 31. While the first four were members of the Party, Tanomy was a Party supporter.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes all these comrades who valiantly faced the cowardly attacks by its enemies and gave up their lives fighting for the cause of the Party, during this period.
