Welcome Supreme Court Verdict on Privacy
CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 24
THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the Supreme Court verdict that the right to privacy is a fundamental right protected under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. In a unanimous decision the nine-member constitution bench headed by the chief justice of India overruled the earlier judgements on this issue in the M P Sharma and Kharak Singh case that held that right to privacy is not a fundamental right.
This landmark judgment should pave the way to protect, in this world of technology advance dominated by corporates, misuse of private data and infringing upon the privacy of individuals.
A separate five-member bench will decide on the issue of mandatory Aadhar that this government is pushing through.
