PUNJAB: Anganwadi Mulajam Union observes International Women Day
AT the call of the Anganwadi Mulajam Union, Punjab CITU, a colourful public rally was held at Sirhand in Fatehgarh Sahib district on March 8. The state office of Anganwadi Mulajam Union, Punjab was inaugurated in Sirhand, a short distance from the capital Chandigarh on March 8, 2017 on the occasion of the International Women's Day. This is the first building owned by any union of anganwadi employees affiliated to All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH). The building is named Vimal Ranadive Bhawan, after the veteran woman trade union leader of the country who not only played a major role in organising women workers including the anganwadi employees but also led other sections of workers like plantation workers, beedi workers etc.
CITU all India president, Hemalata inaugurated the state office of the AMU Punjab and hoisted the CITU flag. Addressing the rally on this occasion, she called upon the CITU workers to further strengthen and widen the struggle for the rights of women and for their equality in every sphere of life. She added that we would have to smash bourgeois and feudal ideologies to achieve emancipation of women. She strongly condemned the Modi government at the centre and Badal government in the state for their failure to address the basic issues and problems of women.
Harjeet Kaur, president, AMUP presided over the rally. AIFAWH all India president, Usha Rani, all India vice-president of CITU, Raghunath Singh, CITU state president, Vijay Misra, vice-president, Chander Shekhar, AMU general secretary, Subhash Rani and AIDWA general secretary, Krishana Kumari also addressed the rally. Raghunath Singh said that this is the duty of all the justice loving and progressive forces to fight for the rights of women and to ensure their equality in every sphere of social life.
