TRIPURA: AIDWA Conference Vows to Safeguard Peace, Harmony & Unity in the State

Rahul Sinha

THE eighteenth state conference of AIDWA Tripura state committee concluded successfully on September 26 at Udaypur of Gomati district. It called for a constant, conscious and vigilant struggle against the reactionary forces to foil their evil conspiracies. It called upon the women of the state to build up a strong organisation to counter the enemies politically and reestablish Left Front government in 2018.

The conference started with a massive meeting at KBI ground Udaypur. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, AIDWA all India president Malini Bhattacharya, AIDWA leaders Rekha Goswami, Rama Das, AIDWA state secretary Jharna Das Baidya, Sabitri Debbarma addressed the meeting which was presided over by  Krishna Rakshit.

Manik Sarkar said, we want to take forward the journey of development in the state and make it a model state in the country. For that, we have to protect the unity of the people. The reactionary forces are targeting this unity time and again both at the national level and in the state. He said the 28 months of Modi government have made it clear that their aim is to safeguard the interests of the big bourgeoisie.  Indirect taxes are increased to burden the poor while the rich are being given tax concessions.  Women are the worst sufferers of rising prices of essential commodities. People are denied of the benefits when prices of crude oil declined. The government took no steps to contain price rise. Allocations for the mid day meal scheme, child and women welfare are being slashed. Unemployment is becoming a serious problem. To divert the attention of the people from these issues so that they don't get united against these, RSS and the BJP is trying to create communal polarisation. Attacks are continuing on dalits and minorities. The same conspiracy to disrupt the unity is on in the state too. We have to continue our struggle against the centre which is discriminating against us. At the same time, struggles are to be waged against those who are trying to disrupt unity and harmony.

AIDWA all India president Malini Bhattacharya said the policies of the RSS controlled BJP government stand in the way of democracy, women's liberties and equal rights. This government is snatching away the hard earned rights of the people. New definitions of patriotism are being coined by RSS on the basis of religion and caste. A greater struggle has to be launched uniting greater sections of the people.
Rekha Goswami spoke about the barbaric attacks on democratic rights and woman's security in TMC raaj in Bengal.

Rama Das said when an all-round attack on the rights of the people is on, the struggle to counter it too has to be an all-round one. Jharna Das Baidya and Sabitri Debbarma said Left Front government is the guarantee for the development of women. BJP, TMC IPFT have joined hands in the conspiracy against the government. United resistance of the people will give them a fitting reply.

The conference was inaugurated by Malini Bhattacharya at Maya Paul Nagar, Subarnaprabha Majumder, Sukhamati  Debbarma, Sandhya Debbarma Manch.  A total of 589 delegates from 24 sub division committees participated. Malini Bhattacharya said, with the RSS controlled BJP coming to power, social and economic exploitation has multiplied.  Rights of the women are being trampled upon.  Promises given to the aam aadmi are put in cold storage. The government is busy protecting the interests of the corporates. Divisions in the name of religion, caste are being created to divert the attention of the people. The threat of communalism must be defeated to take the society forward and the women must play a vital role in this struggle.
Jharna Das Baidya presented the draft political- organisational report after the inaugural session.
Addressing the delegates, AIDWA all India leader Sudha Sundarraman said, price rise hits the women hardest. This government is stealing food items from people as prices continue to rise unabatedly. Violence and discrimination against women are on the rise. 209 starvation deaths have been reported in the last six months. Women marrying according to their choices are hacked to death. There are separate cups for upper and lower castes in Tamil Nadu. Women who clean the toilets are not allowed to use them. The country is burning in the flames of communalism and the PM is busy in foreign trips and in mann ki baat. She said we are asking the PM "mann ki baat chodo, kaam ki baat bolne ki himmat dikhao." In Tripura such discrimination against women is done away with. But we must take this forward further for a social change. MP Central Committee president, Jitendra Choudhury, MP greeted the conference. He urged the women to take a leading role in combating the forces trying to disturb the unity in the state.

48 delegates participated in the discussion on the draft report. The essence of the discussion was to further strengthen and broaden the organisation. They called upon the masses, especially the women, to unite against the divisive conspiracy of IPFT, TMC and BJP to disintegrate the state and vowed to safeguard the atmosphere of peace, harmony and unity.

Rekha Goswami and Rama Das too addressed the delegates. Jharna Das Baidya replied to the discussion of the delegates. The conference elected the new state committee.  Ramani Debbarma was elected as the new president, while Jharna Das Baidya was re elected as secretary.
