“Communalism and authoritarianism are on the rise in the country since the Modi led BJP government came to power at the centre.  The common man has no where to go as the local police or civil administration are working at the dictates of the ruling dispensation. The fundamentalists are even sneaking into  the kitchens of the people to see what is being cooked.  The cow vigilantes under the patronage of Vishwa Hindu Parishad , Bajrang  Dal and other outfits of RSS are law unto themselves and can beat and kill any one on slightest doubt  with ineffective police ,” said Mohd Salim, Polit Bureau member, CPI(M) while addressing a rally organised to pay tributes to Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet, a world renowned communist  leader and former general secretary of CPI(M) at his native village Bundala in Jalandhar on his eighth death anniversary on September 25, 2016.  While commenting on the ‘Achhe Din’ he said that it has come for the Ambanis, Adanis and other top corporate houses who have seen their profits maximise by leaps and bounds and have got tax concessions to the tune of more than Rs Five lakh crores.

Charan Singh Virdi, CPI(M) state secretary, speaking  on the occasion termed the Badal led Akali-BJP government as a   government  of the various mafias  like drug  mafia, sand mafia, cable mafia, transport mafia etc. He said that all these mafias are aided and abetted by the ruling party politicians, police and civil administration. Virdi alleged that atrocities on dalits and women are increasing, unemployment, price rise; costly health services and education facilities have made the life of working people miserable. Hardev Arsi, CPI state secretary, said that Comrade Surjeet played a very big role against communal and fundamentalist forces. He could always give a very concrete advice on the complicated political situations. 

Bant Singh Namol, a kisan leader was honoured by the reception committee for his long service to the peasantry and communist movement. The Punjab state committee of the CPI(M) honoured the Bundala committee comrades for their untiring efforts to make the function smooth and successful.
